That'll buff out - 958 edition

Post by gnat » Thu Jul 11, 2019 6:43 pm

Moving discussion from the GWITF thread to actually add some content here.

Last night the wife took the P!g out on an errand and gave it a bad nose job. Stopped at a terrible intersection the person in front of her started to go. She turned her head to look for her opening and when it came she found out the hard way that the other driver had apparently chickened out and not taken his opening after all.

The intersection is an off ramp from a major highway onto a 6 lane divided road that even at 9pm is heavily traffic. The end of the ramp is a stop sign and puts you at an angle where you have to stare through your B pillar to see oncoming traffic. A couple years ago they spent millions of dollars redoing that whole area for the new Metro station they just built and upped the road from 4 lanes to 6, yet failed to fix that intersection that has been just like this for longer than I've been alive.

Luckily there where no injuries and the cop that showed up didn't even give her a ticket cause he knows how bad that intersection is.

This is not the first time it has visited the body shop: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/cay ... amage.html

In fact, that might have been the last time it got a bath...

Last time I did the bumper swap and swapped the lights for the factory dark versions and I only ended up paying like $500 over what the insurance covered. I don't think I'll be so lucky this time, though I am thinking...

1) Definitely having him fix some various dings and dents from assholes with no respect for other's property.

2) Getting him to paint some interior trim parts in the exterior color for a little accent. He was supposed to do it years ago and one piece is painted, but he dicked around long enough that I got tired of listening to the wife ask when the interior was going to be put back together...

3) I've been wanting the 20" RS Spyder wheels since I bought it (but cut it from the build for other options), I might finally do that. If I do that I believe I have to replace the wheel arches too.

1 & 2 are definitely happening. 3 will be pricey even if I can find a good deal on a used set of wheels, so I don't know.

Yea, that just like most. The HID option basically adds a Xenon light/ballast and they punish you big time for the brighter light. Halogen with a projector lens is pretty darn good.

Not to my well abused tired old eyes it's not ;-)

Seriously, I won't buy another car without HIDs. I need to suck it up and get new bulbs/ballasts for the 996 since they are about 15yrs old at this point and even with the housings being cleaned and polished they still suck compared to the BMW (12yrs) and Cayenne (7yrs).

Oh, like the 996, that is just the housing. Their little explosion there may show the other parts, but the the bulb and ballast are separate. It does have the PDLS mechanism built into it though which I don't believe was an option for the Halogens.

Contact Cuda. He'd get the insurance company to pay you enough to buy a new Taycan, plus let you buy the wrecked carcass back for like a dollar fifty.

BTW, at $274.95 including shipping, 955 halogen headlight units are slightly cheaper:

Seriously with Cuda's negotiation this could be a $50,000 car again.

Jesus, trim your nails.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.
