Anybody know much about Mini Cooper Countryman All4?

Post by FRUNKenstein » Sat Aug 31, 2019 9:35 pm

OK, in November, I’m selling my daily driver Explorer to an employee. I can try to daily a combination of the 996tt, 928S4, 951 and an E30 cabriolet. Sooo, I’m probably going to bail at the first sign of snow and get something AWD or 4x4. Saw this on Craigslist today and it caught my eye. Now this one is fwd and damaged and has a salvage title, but other than that - I like it! Hey Mikey!

Looks like you can get a decent one for under $10k. I’d be selling it in the spring, most likely. OK with a manual, but an automatic would allow the BoF to drive it. Any thoughts on trim levels? So, what say you?

I can't speak to newer ones, but the first and second gens used to get lots of complaints on the BMW boards back when I hung out there. Lots of mechanical and electrical issues as well as cheap trim that would come apart.

You couldn't pay me to drive a new Mini, but that has more to do with them being ugly and not at all mini (or Mini).

Now give me a nice original Mini...

The wife loves the new Mini's but every time I've researched them they get terrible reviews for reliability. So I talk her out of that deal. BTW she also loves the littler Jeeps...uugghh! Form over function must be her mantra.

I believe the Countryman is always the worst rated Mini. Don't know anything about the All4

I'm with gnat I would love to have a real Mini just can't justify having 5 cars and only two of us.

But the reason I love you, billy, is you can justify having 4 cars with just two of you.

Oh and everyone I've ever known with a BMW Mini has had a love/hate relationship with the car. Loved the way it drove but hated the lowest-bidder reliability.

What makes it even worse is the wife hardly ever drives. So in actuality it's 4 cars with 1.25 drivers. I've always thought it's ok to be a little crazy just not totally insane.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

So, I had an early model Mini Cooper S for a few months not long after they came out. I really liked the car. The factory Harmon Kardon stereo was unbelievable. The problem was that it was like a go-cart, so I drove it like I was on a go-cart track - in short, like a-hole weaving in and out of traffic.

I only had it a short time, so although I didn’t have any maintenance issues, that’s not a very big sample size. After my A8L experience, I am a little wary. But, I can’t help wondering if all of the maintenance complaints might be because owners of these cars are converted Honda and Toyota owners who are spoiled by economy car maintenance costs.

LOL

Or maybe it is you developing Stockholm syndrome from so much butt fucking and unreliability from German cars that you grew to accept and enjoy it? If you drive a reliable car, you feel like something is missing, you feel like you have too much money, you feel like you don't worry enough... The danger and excitement is missing.
