Re: "Tired" of cleaning up this mess!
As I was changing out the rotors and brake pads, I noticed my front tires had serious dry rot. I'm saying... They were doing some serious CRACK my friends! Knowing how Cuda loves to run his tires until the top layer separates, he would probably say, "What's the problem here?" Hahaha! Not me!
But I've also noticed another problem with these tires. When I would turn slightly pulling out of the garage, they would scrub. These are 19" and so I expected a little scrub when turning deep, but these start scrubbing much sooner. After researching proper tire sizes when running 19" on the 996, I realized the previous owner mounted the wrong size on the fronts. Surprised? The old ones were 245/35/19 and everyone recommends 235/35/19. Changed them out yesterday and waaaa laaa... no scrubbing. Handling has improved greatly too!

Re: Dead in a Jiffy
Last fall I needed a quickie oil change for the Rav. Went to a fast joint and stayed in car during process. Kid drained the oil. Then went to another bay. A different kid came by and told me to start the engine so he could check for leaks. I said don't think anyone had put oil back in. He confirmed they had done that. I, again, told him no and he should check the dipstick. I watched as he pulled the stick, look sheepishly at me and then put oil in the engine. At same service, the first kid pulled the air filter even though I told the manager not to as I do that kind of service and knew the filter was good. On startup I could hear some funny stuff going on under the hood. Kid was about to drop the hood when I got out and told him to find the noise. He had pulled two vacuum hoses off the filter lid and reinstalled them. On second start something was still wrong! Sounded like the Rav had a turbo and the dump valve was releasing pressure. Again, the kid was closing the hood until I told him he need to put the hoses back in the proper position. I pulled the manager off to the side and gave him my impressions of the service I had received, in a polite manner. His response was to offer me a discount coupon to use on my next visit. I laughed uncontrollably as I drove away. Never again!
Never gonna make you cry...

Re: The Glue Irony
Talk about irony. Noticed the rear window on the passenger side was sticking out and after closer examination, the window's glue was pulled loose at the bottom. Maybe the previous owner was locked out and accessed the doors from the rear window? Maybe they removed the glass during some of their sub woofer installation exploits? I dunno. But had to reseal the glass. Just glad the darn thing didn't fall out during our latest weekend excursion in the mountains.

Good thing that is labeled shop. I'm constantly getting my kitchen clamp mixed up with my shop clamp.
