So, of the 4 cars entered, which one brought home some hardware? Yup, the blue one, which has the longest "to do" list of the bunch, by far. But, I'm not complaining.

But, being a '70's car, I suppose it would be more fitting to have won a trophy from San Diego Region, you know, with its logo straight outta the same decade.

"Class Winner"

What was the class? Surprisingly runs? Made it under its own power? Red headed step children?

It's cool that you could just peel off the "Participated!" sticker and get it re-engraved. That's some good thinkin'.

Yes, I'm aware that - in the words of my sainted grandmother - jealousy is an ugly emotion.

5chn3ll wrote: Sun Oct 04, 2020 9:35 am Hot damn. Found a shop with running equipment. The only guy in front of me is a poor bastard trying to smog a modded Camaro he just bought. So he'll be leaving shortly.
I've been having a problem getting my 98 Windstar cargo -Dog van smogged too.
Went to a place that has the right equipment and they wanted to charge me extra
$10 for being a van or pickup
$10 for being older than 2000
$10 for being a STAR station.

OK, I get extra $10 for being older than 2000, it needs to go on the dyno, but $10 because it is a van or pickup??? And especially $10 because they are a STAR station WTF???

They then tried to tell me that the van was a STAR car. I explained that I was selling the van, not doing a registration renewal where it "might" specify STAR needed.

Finally I had enough with them and left.

The 996 passed all tests, but the tech noticed some electrical tape (it’s actually silicon wrap, but whatever) on an intake hose and failed it for that reason. So I’ll remove the wrap and take it back for a retest in a couple of days.

Yeah, the smog tech ran my C4 on the 2WD dyno. I didn't bother stopping him.

Not burning up a viscous coupling at the hands of smog techs every 2 years is one of the benefits of FWD delete.

Flat Six ran my C4S on a two wheel dyno but they know enough to disconnect the coupling first!

The only car I've ever had to smog was the 300ZX when we lived in Chicago suburbs. Since it was a 93 they put it on the dyno and put the big barn fan in front of it. Unfortunately the opening for the radiator was below the area the fan was pointing at. The car passed but when I got in to drive off the temperature was just coming off of pegged. No lights and it cooled down quickly. I thought about going back to rip some arse, but figured who cares...they don't. We moved to NE the next year.

I pulled the wrap off yesterday and cleaned up the joint - there was some left-over silicon goop from the tape. I was both amused by and irritated by the time I spent yesterday in the driveway with a razor blade, microfiber towel, and spray detailer getting my effing intake hose concours-ready.

So do you only have to prove the tape is removed or go through the whole testing process again?
