I wouldn’t attempt it myself even with a lift. And I doubt that I would buy an M96 with an owner-installed IMS bearing. Especially knowing what we know can happen when somebody tries to DIY an IMS bearing.

Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
Had a couple subsequent conversations with the indy since dropping the car off. I've been putting the new Porsche Classic oil in, so he called to tell me he checked with Charles Navarro (whom he knows personally!) on whether he should use this oil with the Solution. Charles gave him the go-ahead, so I haven't wasted $100. He said I should get new chain tensioners (cam deviations slightly out) and a new AOS (manometer readings are at the top of range), and I agreed. I suspect both of those are original, so now's the time.
I am happy with the progress. Can't wait to get the car back, I should have done this over the winter when I feel bad driving it anyway.

I would highly recommend going with the UAOS from Skip instead of a regular AOS.OceanBlue2000 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 6:36 am Had a couple subsequent conversations with the indy since dropping the car off. Is there any specific reason to replace just the tensioner and not tackle the tensioner paddles as well?

Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
He said tensioners, he wouldn't do the paddles unless it was tracked or beat to hell. I think it makes sense, in that if the chain is contacting the paddles enough to wear them down, then the tensioners aren't doing their job. Tensioners need to come out to do this work anyway, so lets see what the deviations are with replacing the tensioners. If the deviations are the same, then we can see next steps.sweet victory wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 10:58 amI would highly recommend going with the UAOS from Skip instead of a regular AOS.OceanBlue2000 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 6:36 am Had a couple subsequent conversations with the indy since dropping the car off. I thought about the UOAS. I'm a little wary of it, being its so new so I didn't mention it and he didn't either.

As info the UAOS is now being sold by LNE and I think Jake had some exchanges with Skip during the development stage. The product seems pretty solid.

I'm sure its fine, I just didn't research it too much. Seems like a good idea the NEXT time I need one. Hopefully, I'll be getting the call tomorrow that its done.32wildbilly wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 1:49 pm As info the UAOS is now being sold by LNE and I think Jake had some exchanges with Skip during the development stage. Car show Thursday in La Mesa for the first time in 2 years...
Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.
Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.
