**Advice Needed**
Hello my expert 996 brethren! Need some advice here. Went for a drive today. Got back to the house and was inspecting the front fans while the car idled. Only the passenger side fan was on. Is it normal for one to be off or should both come on at the same time? fan dead? I'm not getting any MIL on the dash or anything. The temps are staying at 180F. Strange.

I believe there is a fuse for each fan. look in the fuse box in the driver kick panel as a first go to. mine actually had an oem fuse diagram paper folded up inside the lid, I wasn't able to find that anywhere else on line for my 03/1998 car.

Re: **Advice Needed**
I looked up if this is normal or not and apparently if the AC is running, both fans should be running. If only one is running you may need to replace the resistor on that fan. Folks report on the internet they are prone to breaking in certain weather conditions. The part number is: 99661610100.
Good luck, bud. Shouldn't be a big deal - you seem handy with electric work.

Check the relays first..

Hey thanks everyone ... this is helpful!
Is there an easy way to know if the relays are bad? I have a multimeter, but was wondering if there is another indicator.
I'll check the fuses too. I guess if the fuses are fine and the relays are fans, then it points to the fan's resistor or faulty fan motor?

Ah... I see in the diagram that it's C10. Thank you very much. I'll check that along with Joe's advice about the relay... and as mentioned before, if both of those are fine, then it's the fan (resistor) itself.

Re: **Advice Needed**
Interesting thing about those fans on my car is they hardly ever run unless super hot or AC is on. Seems like just air flow from driving keeps mine happy and temp never goes past the middle of the zero in 180. For a couple of years I never heard the engine room fan kick on either and figured it was bad. After a spirited drive in 90+ heat it did kick on. Scared the crap out of me! I thought something had self-destructed.

Yea, the same thing about my '03 cab. When those fans would kick in, I thought the PO may have had jet turbines installed. Talk about vacuum...I'm like Dyson, eat your heart out! ha! No wonder the car in known to get trash stuck in the rads.32wildbilly wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 6:51 am Interesting thing about those fans on my car is they hardly ever run unless super hot or AC is on. Re: **Advice Needed**
With the car running and AC on, verify whether both fans are running. If yes, you know the relays and fuses are good.
Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Re: **Advice Needed**
Haven't messed around with this yet in mine, but couldn't you swap the four (!) relays around and if the other fan goes on, you've identified the issue? They seem to be "all purpose" relays, and seem to be pretty cheap if you want to throw parts at it.b3freak wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 5:34 am Hey thanks everyone ... this is helpful!
