What did you do to/with your 996 today?

Today was goodbye to the 996 C4.
Sold on BaT for $30,500. That is 17.5% more than I paid for it in July 2020. Was a very nice ride and fun (when the crappy LA roads weren't trying to rape it). Things like T&L and maintenance costs (and the auction fee) are all the ongoing price of having fun...I don't worry about breaking even on those. The car has been very good to me, and I send it on to its new California owner with the full expectation they will have great fun. The car passes from my hands in excellent shape...it could be driven to NYC and back without any fear. A pleasure getting to know everyone here...stay healthy and happy. I'm enjoying my Alfa Giulia and some vintage watches I'm back into playing with.

Hmmm... Seems to be time for a betting pool on when Johnny will be into another 996.
I'm gonna go with this time next year for him to forget the ride on LA roads and start his search. He put off a purchase through the winter. So I'm going with mid to late spring 2023.

There don't seem to be any 996 Turbo clutch throwout bearings in the US at the moment. My auto to manual swap is on hold for the next few weeks. Besides that the steering rack in my daily driver VW just decided to dump Pentosin all over, so that needs fixed too. This is annoying since it's a reman rack with about 30K miles on it - and it took 3 tries to get a good one - and it requires engine removal to replace.

Bearings: probably a bunch of them sitting in container ships off the coast of your choice.
VW: That stinks!

I'm going to have strong arms... removed the PS pulley and bypassed the PS pump until I have time to replace the steering rack & PS pump. Of course that makes a presumption that I will be able to source a steering rack and PS pump. Just some of the joys of a 30 year old daily driver that's been orphaned by the manufacturer.

1.8 jugs of Motul and a new filter….
Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.
Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

The black one failed the state safety inspection because the windshield washer doesn't work, the pump is seized. A new pump was $26 at NAPA. Putting it in, though, is another story... also the headlight washer pump is seized, cracked, and leaking so I removed it and plugged the hole in the tank.

California doesn't give a damn if your car is safe to drive as long as it passes smog.
*sigh*

Did you point out to the inspector that it's a Porsche so the wipers are never needed as it would explode if exposed to rain?
