I picked the car up in early June. The gentleman that I bought it back from had the local lawnmower go-to mechanic do quite a few small projects on it. He had also bought a new main targa seal and a seal for the rear of the targa top. I installed both of them. The main targa seal is an m-f’er to install, btw. It even involves using “personal lubricant” on the seal, so it makes for a slightly embarrassing trip to the store to buy that, plus raised eyebrows from anyone who notices the bottle sitting in your toolbox.

Anyhow, today I installed a new set of Fuchs replica wheels. Although I like the 5 spoke design of the old ATS wheels, the all-black scheme just didn’t look right. The new wheels help tremendously. Now, I’ll try to sell the ATS wheels to recoup some of the cost of the new wheels.

I already have a couple of local guys interested in the car, and I will have it at a big car show this weekend where there will be a “for sale” sign on it. I’m in no hurry to sell, but I will price it at $19,900 and hold firm at that price. I think getting a very nice condition lawnmower Porsche for under $20,000 will soon be a thing of the past, so I think it is a reasonable expectation.

To swap the wheels, I put the car on jack stands and hauled the old wheels with tires and the new wheels to the shop rather than driving the car there. It took a couple of hours to swap the tires to the new rims, so I took the opportunity to clean up the wheel wells a little.

Love the new look. It certainly wasn't bad before, but the silver makes the blue pop all the more in my opinion.

About the only thing it "needs" at this point is the front and rear lower valances which sit under the bumpers. They are not particularly noticeable because they sit so low on the body, but they do clean up the lines. I've got the set on order now from Automobile Atlanta, which is a small 914 aftermarket specialist. Problem is that they are backordered and it might be several months before they come in, according to the parts guy I spoke with.
