If the F250 is a diesel, man, that trip to the gas pump has got to hurt (even more)!

The 26 gallons for my P!g is not fun, but then I remember that I get at least 2x the mileage out of it compared to the gas versions. So it comes out ahead in the end especially since diesel is only $0.20 over premium here.

I find it interesting that diesel is now more expensive than premium gasoline. I get supply/demand, EPA refining regulations and taxes. Still doesn't make sense to me. In the past diesel was almost free compared to gasoline. Economics, governments and environmental concerns sure changed that ratio.

I just watch the OBC values any more. I religiously tracked it by hand for the first couple of years though. The OBC is between 1-2mpg on the optimistic side based on comparing them.

As far as the price, it used to be that the trucking lobbies kept diesel prices far more stable than gas, but they seem to have lost their clout I guess. The higher cost definitely doesn't make sense to me as there is less work involved in the refining process, so it should cost them less.

My was referring to not trusting Porsche software programming since dieselgate.

I agree that there has to be much less refining needed to produce diesel even with all the regulations which should make it cheaper. No wonder all shipping has gone up over the last decade.

If anything I think the OBC got a tad bit more accurate (like 1.3 vs 1.6 over) after the recall was applied.

I agree that there has to be much less refining needed to produce diesel even with all the regulations which should make it cheaper. No wonder all shipping has gone up over the last decade.

That used to be the case, but changes in regulations impacted diesel production in two important ways -- both of which increased prices:

• Some components that used to be routed into the diesel pool no longer are, because the cost to upgrade them far outweighed their value as diesel. The resulting loss of supply led to higher prices.

• Significant investment in new, complex processing units was required to make all other components meet revised specifications. The sequence of processes needed to make diesel now looks quite similar to that needed to produce gasoline, whereas before it was very simple.

Interestingly, most of the revised regulations impacted only on-road diesel. The farming lobby was successful in preventing the bulk of them from impacting diesel used offroad--primarily for tractors and other farming-related vehicles.
