Road Trip Tips for 996
Re: Road Trip Tips for 996
Credit card and a cell phone.
Mostly common sense stuff -- a good inspection and maintenance pre-trip does wonders for your psyche. The meatbag behind the wheel is the most likely thing to break, so put together a med kit.
A cheapo ELM 327 bluetooth OBD2 scanner plus Torque Pro for Android is a great tool in case you throw a CEL or just want to monitor your actual coolant temps in traffic.
+1 for checking your spare and frunk tool kit. Maybe replace your serp belt and wrap the old one and put it in your frunk kit, this will give you a chance to feel the idlers and WP pulley for play.
A good flashlight is a nice addition to the frunk kit, along with towels, hand cleaner, air pressure gauge, etc. I keep a 12v inflator in my truck kit, but not in my 911. If I were doing 2600mi, I might throw that in too.

Jumper cables and the second key. You never want to have to pay to have a new key made, but you REALLY never want to have to pay whatever it's gonna cost when you're stuck on the side of the road in Bald Knob. Or Beaver Creek. Or even Swallow Hill.
WARNING: Middle-school humor in 3...2...1...
Idaho, which sports nearly as many Mormons per square mile as Utah, also happens to have some really lewd-sounding town names:
Bone
Cream Can Junction
Dickshooter
Hand Place
Slickpoo
I was alone in Hand Place for a bit. I thought I was going to have to go to Dickshooter on my own, but my lady friend from Cream Can Junction decided to join me in the Bone meat-packing district. The ride must have tired her out; she woke up in Slickpoo.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.
Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

Well guys, I made the 2700 mile trip with no major issues. Averaged 72mph and 25mpg. Only a few issues, like a oil pressure gauge that didn't seem to ready correctly.

I can only assume a witch doctor was riding shotgun and a voodoo priestess was in one of the back seats.
2,700 miles...let's see...carry the one...that's precisely 5,400 times longer than any trip KrazyK took in his 996.

But where did you stop for an oil change and UOA? Did you take a crate of DT40 for the road?

hahahahaha I know guys, I was so impressed that I bought a lotto ticket for saturday night!
She needs a wash and detail, and an oil change... but other than that, she did those 2700 miles like it wasn't nothing at all.

I went almost exactly 3,000 miles when I bought my car and I parked on a hill once.
