Based on the worst case scenario...
The next step is to decide what direction you want to take based on how much you want to dump into it. Personally, I would take a deep breath now that you own it and send it to a trusted Porsche shop there on the island for a full evaluation. I would think you have about three options if the engine needs to be rebuilt - 1.) Porsche short block 2.) Full reconstruction 3.) Used engine
You're looking at about $10,000 - $25,000 IMHO
Now, if the "noise" is over exaggerated by the previous owner, there is a slight chance that it could be something less expensive to resolve, but based on the new evidence so far, my initial thoughts were wrong. But I'm still hoping the best for YOU.
