40k on a clutch? I don't feel so bad now that I know I'm not the only that doesn't get 80k out of the things!

The PO replaced the clutch in my car at 60,000, when it might not have needed it (WYIT sort of thing). Does 40,000 sound low to anyone else?
Just curious. This is my first manual car in 20 years, I'm sure I am burning mine when I'm not even driving it.

My PO changed it 60K miles ago and I was very tempted to roll with it as it still looks good to me, but not going to.
I've seen 90K on some others...If it still works and feels good roll with it.

I screwed myself. Machined the flywheel and reused it. Doh. Probably would have gotten twice the life out of the new clutch. *shrug*

Prior owners of my car managed to trash the clutch and flywheel in about 59k miles. Seemed a bit premature, given that AFAIK neither PO lived in an area where I’d expect a lot of stop-and-go driving.
OTOH, there is strong evidence — like the eleven bucks worth of change that I found under the center console when I went to install a new shifter — that at least one of the prior owners of my car was a dope.
