Unfortunately, it's an occasional artifact of our current hosting "solution."
I'll be moving the site right around the beginning of the year; a lot of the garbage we have to deal with technologically will go away at that time.
Hang in there.

Yeah, no prob. Don't remember seeing it with this much "insistence" before. I wanted to make sure it wasn't on my end. I really wasn't upset, but I did get your attention!

It appears to be something with GoDaddy's SSL implementation. If you change the protocol (https) in the address bar to http, the gateway error will go away, but when the site attempts to redirect back to SSL (it does this by default because SSL good), you get the green page of shit again.

I removed the setting for the site to automatically move sessions to HTTPS. That should help until GoDaddy gets their shit together.

Re: Just what the F--K is a 502(Bad Gateway) error
The issue was still persisting today, so I reissued and reapplied the certificates using GoDaddy's CPanel interface, which I hate because I have absolutely NO control over anything.
It appears that GoDaddy uses SNI for SSL, which makes since given the number of sites they likely host on each public IP. I think something was boogered in their SNI system - all HTTPS requests were getting busted in transit, while HTTP was working fine.
As of right now, HTTPS seems to be working properly again, so I have reverted to using HTTPS as the preferred protocol. If anyone starts seeing the bad gateway error again, please post up.
I moved this thread to the Help forum so non-members can post to it as well, if necessary.
