Gold plating your bearing is actually a good idea. As soon as you find gold specs in your oil filter, time for a new bearing!
Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com
Finally starting to consider that the diesel settlement money would be better in my pocket than Porsche's. Think they'll let me keep the take off parts so I can gold plate them?
Should be less than $4k to clean and plate a set of cats rights?

They change the cats?? I thought it was purely a software deal?
Gold plated cats would be cool but might take up too much room on your desk.

Depends on which version you have. Mine is MY13 so it gets cats and some other stuff too. I believe 14 is the same, but not positive. 15&16 are just a flash.32wildbilly wrote: ↑Tue Sep 18, 2018 10:52 amThey change the cats?? I thought it was purely a software deal?

Here's a serious question: What the hell makes the mufflers on our cars so expensive? Are they complete full of Unicorn jism?

Here's a serious answer: because everything on our car is so damn expensive.

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com
2 cars at the Kansas City Manheim auction peaked my interest today, and I almost bit to flip them:
1. 2013 VW GTI, black, plaid seats, interior was nice, but had 113k miles and some hail damage. Pre-auction estimate was $4,700 value. Thought about putting in a proxy bid at $4,100, meaning I'd have had about $4,400 into it after auction fees. But, since I didn't get to see the hail damage in person, I passed.
2. 2000 996C2 coupe, tiptronic, silver over black, 74k miles. Full leather interior. Seller was the local Porsche dealer. Looked to be in decent shape, but there was no "condition report" (pre-auction inspection report). I figured as a 2000 model, there was a good chance it has the dual row bearing, plus it being a tippy, I was willing to roll the dice that the engine wasn't ready to grenade. There was no pre-sale auction estimate for price, so I put in a proxy bid at $9,600, meaning I'd have had ~$9,900 into it after auction fees. I figured I could advertise it at $12,900 and sell it at $12,000 relatively easily. However, they added an "announcement" on all of the cars being sold by that seller (announced no arbitration for seals and gaskets - a pretty standard qualifier on older vehicles running through the auction) right before the auction, so they cancelled all of the proxy bids. It appears that no one bid on it. It might be up again next week. If so, I'll go see it in person.

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com
I have started having the dreaded double beep/lock light always illuminated thing in Mike's new to him Targa.
I see the fix is a durametric plus microswitch replacement most if the time. What ill will befall me if I ignore it?
Unrelated, we own a Nissan armada that I only drive when I have to or when I'm towing the trailer. Otherwise we drive the Acadia. Thinking of selling the armada and buying a truck to use to tow and as a spare vehicle. Want to spend basically nothing. Suggestions? Needs to tow 4000 pounds very capably (the armada does) and a secure cover would be a plus but I imagine those would be available for any pickup. Seating for 5 ideal even if not super comfy.
