As for the cap, i recently got the strap replaced after going forever without one, and yes in NJ its funny to watch the attendant try to figure out what to do with the cap.

Well driving until the tank was half empty, and then filling it up (at a Chevron station) solved the problem. The gauge is working normally. And on the long drive, the car is such a joy. The crappy roads in Los Angeles/Southern California make trying to use the radio's touch screen a bumpy version of radio Russian roulette. The roads are so patched and pock-marked the noise can be tiring, but when you find a good smooth section, everything is perfect.
