Yeah, avoided contact. At that speed and radius, obviously I could brake or lift off gas much. Took all my nerve to hold my line and very slightly lift to drop speed slightly. I called an end to that session for myself right after.

OK, serious question - What’s the appropriate level of disdain for track guys against guys who don’t track their cars?

Tonight at our PCA board meeting, our DE chairman proposed that no one should be allowed to serve as a board member or officer of the club if they don’t track or autocross their car at least twice per year. This was in the middle of a diatribe about how only 4 board members are signed up for our end of the month DE. Me, I’m in my 4th year of serving as a board member, and I don’t track my car. I did our only autocross last year and helped pack up the equipment afterwards (we had 3 rainouts last year). And I did an autocross the year before. I also help run the All German Car Show and some other events in addition to doing the minutes and attending board meetings every month. Bottom line, I feel like I pull my weight to help run the club. That being said, I know I am one of the targets of the rant.

I’ve got nothing negative to say about the track rats in our club - glad they enjoy it, I defer to their knowledge, skill and experience. I just rarely have an entire weekend without other commitments to devote to a DE. Plus, I’m not in a position to be able to afford to wreck my 996tt and pay to repair a track barrier if I f*ck up. So, I choose not to track my car. Someday, when I get kids through college and the house paid off, then sure. But there’s a reason my daily has 135,000 miles on it.

So, the question is whether I’m out of line when I think to myself “F*ck you - it’s my call whether I track my car, you pretentious prick.”

I only have disdain for people who think they push their cars but have never done any closed course driving. Autocross is way more aggressive than any street driving and track driving is I think another step.

But car clubs have different roles for different people. The DE chair should be a DE guy. The breakfast meeting chair should have a mouth.

Ditto. Douchebag. Our club recently did a survey and interestingly enough, there were several comments that the club was TOO "racetrack" oriented and left non-tracking members feeling abandon. I agree with DT, DE committee= track/DE people, general executive not so much.

Without knowing the specifics of the rant, I do know that running a DE is a ton of work and that many groups have trouble doing so profitably so there might have been a bit of a "if you board members don't lead the way we're going to lose this thing" aspect to it but it doesn't sound like it. And if that was his intended message he quite obviously delivered it poorly.
