Re: The dreaded oil filler tube
you are dealing with a little dissimilar metal corrosion.. the bushing is steel, the alternator ear is aluminum.
soak it good with PB Blaster, Kroil.. or your choice of penetrant, and hit it directly. How many turns is the bolt loosened? Was it difficult to loosen? You are trying to slide a steel bushing that is press fit into an aluminum housing..just enough to release the pressure and lift it out. It will work.. it CANT be rusted in place.
I will sometimes sacrifice an old socket of that size and protect the bolt head. Slam on that sucker with a 3# hammer and it should slide
Don't give up

Thanks. I have soaked it in PB Blaster. The bolt turns freely; I backed it all the way out and took off the tensioner portions and then put the bolt back in and then backed it out 3-4 turns. I think I need to get a bigger hammer.EPiK wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 2:38 pm you are dealing with a little dissimilar metal corrosion.. the bushing is steel, the alternator ear is aluminum.

Might be a good idea for me to knock mine out and put some anti seize on it while my motor is out.

Crap, now I really screwed it up. Got everything together (10 year old son fingers for the win installing the tube bolts) and fired it up and it all worked great, backed it out of the garage and then.....
I washed it. But I didn't put a condom on the snorkel.
So, anyone want to buy a roller?

The only problem would be if you forgot to remove the snorkel condom after washing and firing it up to put it back in the garage!DTMiller wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 7:14 am Crap, now I really screwed it up. Wonder how many people covered their snorkels or entire engine drove off and forgot it?DBJoe996 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 10:12 amThe only problem would be if you forgot to remove the snorkel condom after washing and firing it up to put it back in the garage!DTMiller wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 7:14 am Crap, now I really screwed it up.
