Actually, I said HID, but I meant LED.

And, believe it or not, the discussion is not about "purists" vs. those who modify. I would have guessed that myself, but it really is more about cost versus effectiveness of the lighting (beam spread, etc). Pretty much everybody agrees that the OEM sealed beams are crap. The discussion is upgrading to the H4 halogens as opposed to the LED lights. A popular mod just a few years ago was to buy new housings that used H4 halogen bulbs.
Now, you can plug LED lights into the housings that were made for the H4 halogens. But, apparently the housings don't match well with the LED bulbs. So, some people are recommending what is basically a sealed unit LED. But, they are expensive. Except for the cheaper ones that are supposedly crap. So, in that case, just buy the housings for the H4 bulbs and stick with the H4 halogens. Or not because the cheaper ones really aren't that bad. The thread is getting a lot of posts in it. Hell, I just wanted the quick & dirty on how to upgrade the lights with the stuff that's currently on the market.

Yeah wait until your eyes are as old as mine!! I paid big bucks for replacement bulbs for the Rav that were higher wattage and a clearer "blue" color after driving the 996 after dark and I realized how much I couldn't see at night in the Rav.

I believe it. I haven't driven a car with LEDs yet and I expect once I do I will have a similar view about them. There is simply no way I can drive with halogens anymore though as I feel like I can't see squat.

Got socked today, at least a foot and still snowing. Super happy that the 996 is snug in the garage.

Foot and a half, at least. It's stopped for now but I hope snow this early isn't a bad sign. Last year I don't think we got the snow blower out of the shed. The year before that we got snow all the way to late March.

Kids and the dog love it at least. I hate it less because I know the 996 doesn't have to go out in it since I got the Truckster.

And its a little change from all the COVID COVID COVID. Something else to think about.

Been too busy to hang here lately, unfortunately.

Quadrupling our users since April had the unintended consequence of chewing through two years' worth of storage in about six months, so my plan to roll out a new storage subsystem in the 2021-2022 time frame was accelerated to...last Friday.

The good news is that I've dumped that turd on the programmers now, so when it all turns to shit, it will appear to be their fault. Plus, I'm the boss - so it's their fault no matter what.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

I was beginning to worry. There were so many opportunities to apply your "unusual" wit that were missed. How's your area for the plague?
