OK, figured I'd start a maintenance log on this car, too. Purchased on September 5, 2014 out of Terre Haute, IN. Drove it home from there.
November 2014 - Timing Belt/Water Pump. Mileage approximately 82,000 (I don't have the records with me at the moment)
Also replaced the tires and did other work that I'll dig out the receipts for and log in here later.

Replaced the battery today. Old one was bought in March 2016, so got 4 1/2 years out of it.

EDIT: After I actually plugged the new battery in, I noticed an interior light was left on. So, I probably replaced a good battery (that was going to fail in the next year or so anyways). Like the weasel I am, I blame my wife for giving me a grand total of about 5 minutes to diagnose, order parts and repair the issue (no exaggeration).

To Do List:

Need to pull rear quarter windows to repair minor rust in window channels on both sides.
Adjust timing belt warning sensor
Install thrust bearing saver device on torque tube
Remove old footwell neon lighting
Replace stereo head unit
Get front AC unit functional

Spent some time on the 928 today. First, I replaced the gearshift surround. Mine had some flimsy homemade plastic sliders surrounding the stalk on the shifter. A couple of months ago, I bought a used one from a guy in our local PCA who was parting out a 928. It was an easy swap.

Then, I dug in under the dash to remove two old neon lights for the foot wells along with some controller that synced them up with the stereo. They were never functional on my watch. Also, at some point, it had an amp under the the passenger seat. So, I removed a bunch of the extra wiring. Lastly, I installed a Pioneer Bluetooth head unit that I paid $52.07 for at WalMart. It definitely looks better than the old silver faced head unit. Sound is decent. I didn’t get time to play with it much.

Part of me is nostalgic about the way you could swap out stereos and head units in older cars with little effort.

I remember feeling like a boss after I installed a stereo in my Mazda 323. It was some O'Reilly brand with removable face and fancy faceplate graphics. I loved that thing.

In the newer cars this is no longer possible. The aftermarket stereo just sticks out too much, or simply would not work.

On related note, credit goes to Honda for trying to support older systems, they actually offered free system disks for my car when.... Internal memory ran out of digits for dates. Real thing, my car being one of the last built in its generation suffered this malady last and I could actually research why my clock was showing 00:00.

If you go with the no CD/DVD player option, the new head units are only about 2 to 3 inches deep. The little cheapo units I put in the 944 Turbo and 914 can’t be more than 2 inches deep. The Pioneer I installed in the 928 is definitely under 4 inches deep.

Just a bit of fun. I’m a huge James Bond fan, plus had my butt strapped to an ejection seat hundreds of times. For about 10 bucks, I bought them for each of the P-cars and the X1/9. Money well spent when a kid looks in your car at a show and turns to you with that surprised look on their face saying “Is that really an ejection seat?!”

BTW, the correct answer to that question is always “Yes, yes it is.”

Thanks on the stereo - much better than the old silver unit that stuck out like a sore thumb.

This is a real thing.... the uber expensive Porsche PCM2 radio/cd/nav in my '03 Turbo no longer displays the correct date because the GPS week counter in the thing ran out of digits. There's no way to reset it either; it loads the date & time from the nav's GPS receiver. There is no fix available. So I am stuck looking at the date showing the year 2001.

I know, just replace it. Except this car has the MOST optical audio bus, the PCM2 is integrated with the instrument cluster to show nav guidance, the trip computers show up on the PCM2 screen. I don't use the nav but I do use the trip computers.
