Drown the stupid thing and buy a new(er) one...Mr. Type R.

Get something with a decent GPU...just think of how good those "danger to manifold" renders will look!
I'm finally giving up on the Dell and was about to buy a MBP this weekend. They are apparently releasing new models tomorrow though and they are moving to ARM...

After living through / supporting hardware and software during the PowerPC to Intel migration, the MacOS to OS X migration, and the 32-bit to 64-bit native migrations on Apple hardware, I will NOT be in line for a first-generation Apple product running a new-to-them CPU architecture.

It IS probably a good time to get a good deal on a refurbished current-gen notebook, though - I buy all my shit from their refurb store; once new hardware comes out and the early adopters start adopting, the refurbs start piling up and the prices get a bit lower. The refurb discount pays for the Apple Care you're insane not to buy...

*edit* I mis-typed "first generation" as "fist generation" previously...but in retrospect, the first generation IS the fist generation for Apple hardware.

Yeah. Overall I think they did a great job making stuff compiled for the previous arch still run mostly nicely on the new arch, but as most of the things I want to do are 3D related processor emulation usually isn't the greatest.

I likely would get an ARM based laptop, but the price of the current offering should drop a few hundred. Maybe I go ahead and get that 64GB of RAM after all... Thanks for reminding me of the refurbs though. I always forget about that (mostly because they never have the specs I want when I'm looking).

Speaking of Apple, the wife has had one of their CCs for awhile. As they do 0% financing over a year and 3% cash back for Apple purchases made with it, I figured what the hell.

So me who has a job making comfortably into 6 figures and providing the entire income for the family, they give $12,500. Her who has no job gets a 20-something thousand limit. WTF?!? :?

My wife does all of the responsible spending...I do all of the "problem" spending.

You know, like showing up with a 996 we didn't really need one day.

Yeah I think I will drown it and get one of those heavy GPU equipped ARM models with a previous stable arch system...

WUT?!

BTW you guys sound like my kids! It took them years to get me to give up my CRT televisions.

In my defense, I'm typing this on hardware that makes Billy look like a bleeding-edge early adopter...

Gnat, I didn't dig into the specs to figure out why the money I didn't spend on the Pro will come back to haunt me. I think there might be one or two fewer GPU cores. Otherwise, it seemed like a no-brainer to go with the gooder Air than the more ungooder Pro. I dropped the difference on the AppleCare, since it now covers 3 years of accidental laptop damage (I'm feeling like there might be an accident 35 months from now...).
