It's a Good Week in the 991 Forum

The focus of this website is the 996 series of Porsche. But, soon after this 996 website was created, we realized that there was a desire for discussion of other Porsche models here. Many of us own other models of Porsche, so we created a subforum for each of the other models.

The purpose of this thread is to give you 991 guys a place to develop some camaraderie. It's OK to post non-technical stuff here. And because it's annoying to have a technical thread get littered with jokes and such, let's try to keep that non-technical stuff here and out of the other threads in this subforum.

OK, the 991 forum is dead, so how about kicking it off...

I'm a current 996 Turbo owner. Love it, but always looking for the 'next' Porsche. 997 Turbo is one of the leading contenders, but I'm also intrigued about the possibility of picking up a 991.2 base.

I love forced induction, and while much of the Porsche world is disappointed about Porsche's move away from NA engines, I love the idea. Especially living at altitude. I test drove a base, it's the first non-S since 2005 that Ive been throughly impressed with the power, and that was bone stock!

Here's what i like about the idea of picking up a used 991.2 base
  • Turbocharged engine, same 3.0 liter engine as S, GTS
  • Tune and turbocharger differences only between S, GTS (in power)
  • Base rated at 370HP from factory, with tons of flat, ecu limited torque.
  • VERY tunable like the Mezger turbo's... Early tuners are bumping 105HP sw only (475HP), 140HP sw and turbos only with safe, street octane tunes.
  • Very modern interior.
  • 991 Gen's have been very reliable, engine and overall.
  • I'm seeing used base coupe's in the mid seventies, same price point as a decent 997 Turbo.

Someday, when depreciation has had it's way with them, I'll own a 991. So, note to future self, start thinking about it now.

And start taking gratuitous 991 test-drives at the dealership, you know, just in case I win the lottery.

2017 base 991.2's are starting to price similarly to 991.1 S or a 997 Turbo models. The question becomes "is it more or less of a car..."

Even has a deviated stitching option for the 991 purists out there.

I guess I could get a loan against my house, but I'd rather be driving the most hated, most affordable of all 911s. ;) And yea, I'm the weird one, I've always like the unique headlights!

The 911 was her dream car. I always hated the bug eye look. Had the 996 come out when it did we would be a Porsche-less family. The 996.1 with taco wing is the best looking to date. Elegant, unimposing, graceful, and understated.

Still. The 991 GT3RS cars are just in your face awesomeness

Man, my Cars n Coffee times with that car would be insane. Way faster than my 996TT CnC times.
