Guilty as charged.
Too much time on my hands?
It's ticking away with my sanity
I've got too much time on my hands
It's hard to believe such a calamity
I've got too much time on my hands
And it's ticking away, ticking away from me
Too much time on my hands
(It's t-t-t-t-ticking away)
Too much time on my hands
(And I don't know what to do with myself)
Too much time on my hands
Never gonna make you cry...

Damn! The more you know... I really want a Mercedes  You seriously wouldn't recommend an E63 after owning an E55?

And here's the dilemma; post in reply or stay silent and evil for life? I'm attached to the name, now...

On that note - Is Schnell able to permanently make my post count 69 and make my user status say "Nice." ?

E63 is far less reliable than the E55. E55 and E55K were arguably the most reliable AMG cars you could buy. All of the engine issues are applicable to E63. Plus you have the air ride, and more electronics.

Yep, that video is eerily similar to my A8L experience. The list of things that needed to be fixed was never-ending. So, even though I could do a lot of the repair work myself, I couldn't get ahead of it and the parts, even used, were still very expensive.

In all fairness, it sounds like his buddy that owned the car refused to do any maintenance on it as problems occurred. So, considering you've got a 10 year old car that likely hadn't had anything fixed since the warranty ran out, you're looking at catching up with 6+ years of deferred maintenance. I think if you began with a well-sorted car, it might be a much different experience. And I bought my high-mileage 10 year old A8L knowing it was going to require some TLC - so that's on me.

BTW, that video was very well done. I thought he might just be quoting dealership repair prices, but no, he took the time to research what a DIYer would end up paying. And that number is scary.

The thing is, the new luxury cars are now pushing into 6 figure price range when new. The moment the warranty runs out, their price plummets and they head to carmax and then BHPH lots. They actually start requiring far more maintenance than before, yet their new owners are far less financially capable.

It is very tempting to buy the monstrous slightly used M5 with ridiculous 700hp motor, or used 550i sport with TT, or AMG, or panamera Turbo S. But for 99% of people a single major breakdown puts them into a very significant financial trouble. They have large loan on the car that no longer works, and repair is far outside of their cash reserves and requires either a new loan or massive CC charge.

Local guy here in KC took an S550 to Cottman Transmission. :o They screwed it up SO bad that the car was towed to the indy shop I sometimes use, who are all former MB dealer guys. They did the repairs, but the car had to be towed to the dealer for the trans to be re-programmed....from Germany via the Internet.

The bill for this little foible was over $12,000. An extended warranty would have been worth it....in that case.

Just checking back with an update:

“Mahomes is the reigning MVP and he’s well in line to repeat with 1,195 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and no interceptions through three weeks. That puts him on pace for 53 touchdown passes and the NFL’s first ever 6,000-yard season.”
