Cali gas taxes headed up...AGAIN!

Post by 32wildbilly » Sun Jun 30, 2019 11:40 am

Holy Crap! California gots sum taxes!
California gas tax rises another 6 cents a gallon Monday

Fill up this weekend before highest gas tax in U.S. goes into effect Monday

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California's nation-leading gas prices are set to climb even higher Monday, when the state gas tax increases another 5.6 cents a gallon.

It's the latest increase from a 2017 law designed to raise about $5 billion a year for road and mass transit programs.

A 12 cent-per-gallon boost came that November, and voters last year rejected a Republican-led effort to repeal the law. But Southern California voters did recall one Democratic lawmaker who helped pass the measure.

California motorists were paying an average $3.75 per gallon as of late June, far above the national average of $2.71 calculated by AAA .

The gas tax will increase to 47.3 cents a gallon July 1, according to the state Board of Equalization, and continue to increase indefinitely starting next year to keep up with the California Consumer Price Index

We're nowhere close to setting records but $3.75 - $3.90 is what I've been paying per gallon for 91 in southern NV.

Pretty sure the report above is referring to low octane.

Ohio gas tax goes up 12 cents and diesel goes up 19 cents tomorrow. Filled up all the cars this weekend.
We are still way cheaper than California, but still not happy about the tax increase.

@wildbilly - no doubt! I was just adding anecdotal static to the conversation.

Other news - I saw this 904 replica today at the local Porsche meetup. It has a 3.2l lawnmower Carrera engine and a Boxster transmission to accommodate the mid-engine layout. It was pretty rough inside but pretty striking to see in person. The owner told us he is 90% done with it - interior being one of those unaddressed line items. Very small, too. I didn't fit inside...

That absolutely the best type of static!

904 replica...that is pretty cool. Fairly certain I would not fit in it either...6'2" 215 with the beginning of age compromised flexibility.

CA and HI are brutal gas costs but PA is oddly right up there with them. VA is often a full $0.40 cheaper/gallon.

That is understandable for PA:

1. Pennsylvania

• State gas tax: 58.7 cents per gallon.

#1 in nation for tax per gallon reported in Feb 2019.

We're still relatively cheap at least compared to our neighbors here in NJ. The gas tax is pretty low, and the refineries are pretty close.
