You know the old saying it’s not nice to F with Mother Nature include the pancreas with that sentiment! Galdbladder was removed yesterday and feel better already.
So Ho Ho Merry Christmas to all you folks.
Hey Bill! Haven't been on the forums much since Thanksgiving. Sorry to hear about your health troubles. I too had a serious gallstone blockage. Thought I was having a heart attack. Worse pain than when I had a ruptured appendix. Doctors said I should be thankful because if I had ignored the gall stone problem another day it could have damaged my pancreas and at that point, it's a potential death sentence. And he wasn't joking. Whoosh. It's amazing how good I felt the day after surgery. Almost like a weight was lifted off my body. Prayers brotha!

A bit of culture shock and definitely climate shock LOL

Arrived at Riley over the weekend. Did find a good Taco place in Junction City, something he missed in HI and here in Austin.
Pretty much all Tex-Mex crap in Austin. Need salsa, not queso
Tell him that if he heads over to KC, I'll treat him to a beer and some damn fine BBQ. Joe's Kansas City BBQ is 3 blocks down the street from the auto museum.

I bought this at the auction on Wednesday for one of my fraternity brothers. He has wanted one since they came out, and he was looking. It was great timing for him that one came up at the local auction in exactly the configuration he was looking for.

I was able to save him about $15,000 over what he would have paid at a dealership. It's a 2005 model with W-12 engine and AWD. 50,000 miles. It's not perfect, but in really nice condition - I'd say a very high condition 3 car.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to drive it as I let the auto museum curator drive it back from the auction since he's a huge Rolls/Bentley fan.

That is the one that's essentially a Phaeton underneath, correct?

There's a Bentley mechanic in KC that will be boat shopping soon

To be honest, I don't know much about Bentleys, so you may very well be correct. I know the original MSRP was $159,900 back in 2005. That's a lot of money, but in 1998, I was lucky enough to get a tour of the Rolls/Bentley factory in Crewe. Seems like the cheaper cars were selling for $200k+ then. I believe the Continental GT is more of a mass produced car (relatively speaking) than the other Bentley models. But, again, I don't know that much about them.

As for maintenance, he actually lives in Dallas, but yeah, I wouldn't want to be on the hook for maintaining an aging Rolls or Bentley. Makes us Porsche guys look like bargain shoppers.

From what I understand the major-major issues with these cars stem from an overly-complex CAN bus system from the early 2000's VW. Also has the same airbag baffle drama that a lot of early-2000's german luxury cars dealt with with air-matic suspensions. Otherwise I don't think the W12 has a reputation for un-reliability just over-complicated. I don't believe these are very DIY friendly just due to how complex the services are (removing fascias, etc...)

Will do flyboy. I told him to let me know and I'd ping you. He will want to visit the museum.

He has been driving around since he got there. Been to Junction City, Manhattan, Topeka and Wichita. He drove through KC after he picked up his car in St Louis. Stupid DOD, it would have been easier for him to pick it up in Dallas as the port of entry was Galveston
