Otherwise we drive the Acadia. Thinking of selling the armada and buying a truck to use to tow and as a spare vehicle. Want to spend basically nothing. Suggestions? Needs to tow 4000 pounds very capably (the armada does) and a secure cover would be a plus but I imagine those would be available for any pickup. Seating for 5 ideal even if not super comfy.

Hey Joe,DBJoe996 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 12, 2018 5:41 amLet us know what you find out on this. Mine has started to do something similar. Lock car and all is well. Unlock car, lift handle, window drops but the door does not open. Second pull, window drops and door doesn't open. Dang. Lock car again and then unlock, everything works right and door opens. Making me nervous. I have lubed everything with white lithium grease thinking the door latch mechanism is sticking, but it has not helped.sweet victory wrote: ↑Tue Sep 11, 2018 9:45 am Regretting purchasing a used door latch mechanism. The micro switches work fine, but now takes a few tries to open. Doesn't open from inside or outside. I pull the handle, window drops, but it's like the door is still locked. Same deal when pulling from inside. Arghhhhh.
Had my door apart this past weekend. All of the mechanical linkages connecting the handles to the door latch were fine. The exterior lock tumbler was fine. I played around the door latch by actuating the lock and door pulls by hand, I noticed something different from the passenger side (which is working fine). If i manually close the latch on the passenger side and pull the handle, the latch opens very quickly with force to pop the door open. When I did the same with the faulty latch, it took two actuation to open the door like you are experiencing. The latch would get stuck on the first indent like if you were to not close the door all the way and it still latches. The latch itself is jammed and moves very slowly. Upon further inspection, there is a rubber seal that has failed, which is preventing the door latch from being able to pop open. I have removed as much rubber as possible and lubricated it. Still jammed. I believe since the lock is mechanically linked to the latch, the sticking latch is preventing the mechanical linkages to work properly. Just as an FYI, the passenger side did not have any of this rubber stuck between the latch and the housing. Assuming your key tumbler isn't the issue, it seems like a replacement latch is needed.

That is really good information. Thank you. I figured I might be in need of a new door latch mechanism. After all, the car is a DD and is 20 years old. Guess we might be beginning to discover the lifetime of parts on our cars. I wonder what that rubber seal is all about? I know about the rubber seals on the door handle hinges, but I wonder why there is one inside of the latch mechanism? Huh....Porsche engineering! Are you going to replace the latch?

~20 years is not bad at all! Lot of moving, plastic and small, parts going on in our doors. It could also be a rubber bushing that retains the latch pin. Not sure since I did not wan to tear it apart. With so many springs in this thing, the chances of something flying off into the abyss is quiet high. Yeah, I'm going to replace the latch. I don't want to look like I'm trying to break into my own car.DBJoe996 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 20, 2018 10:33 am That is really good information. Thank you. Well, as Kalash says, I need to work extra hard to pay for the 991, so I think I'll order a second round whilst inspecting this place.

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com
BTW, nice little 30k mile 914 in the right color up on BaT.

I'm high bidder at the moment - I couldn't resist. But, I ain't bidding any more, so that won't last.
If I got it at that price, though, I could at least justify it to the wife as a flipper.

Nice car from the pix, would need to see it in person. Should go for 15k or so. More if it weren't a 75.

Read about this in September's issue of popular mechanics. Very cool.
