Well, on Kalash’s topic of opening oneself up to scammers, last week I switched the insurance on all but one of the hooptie fleet (the 996tt) to Hagerty. I joined the Driver’s Club due to the roadside assistance bennies. Then, the Hagerty website invited me to join DriveShare. Hmm, I says to myself “Self, would somebody actually pay me to drive one of my old cars?” There’s no better way to find out than giving it a shot - so I listed all 6 of them as available:

Billy - There’s a car for sale in Omaha. Would you go put eyes on it and tell me what you think? Seriously. Would like to know if this is the factory correct Sienna Metallic. If so and it’s in decent shape, I am definitely interested. The ad says it’s in Benson.

Billy - Nevermind. Looking at engine bay pics, the shock towers and firewall are silver. So, it’s a color-change repaint. I’ll bet the odometer is wrong, also.

Frunk, your prices are very optimistic. Look at Turo in KC for comps. Maserati Gran Turismo is $150/day in Phoenix.

Yeah, I know, you're right. But, I doubt anyone is going to want more than a one-day rental. So, I'm not putting up with the hassle of dealing with someone for less than $250.

Sorry but I have never understood the "rent my really nice car" deal. You just know someone is going to beat the dogshit out of it. Some people just don't respect other people's stuff.

That is a hard pass for me.

I absolutely understand that. But, I've never been one to be overly protective of my cars. They are all Condition 3 to begin with. I drive them in crummy weather. I tape Christmas lights to them during the holidays. I have kids. And let my kids drive them. I'll take my dog in them sometimes. When I had a Countach replica and a Sterling kit car, I let the auto museum use them for interactive displays. In the end, if something gets scratched or broken, it can be fixed. If they total it, then I get paid the agreed value, which is more than I could sell any of the cars for. I seriously doubt that even one of them gets rented for even one day, but hey, it's fun to list them and see.

Turbro*

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.
