Hot damn! I went through the old pile of hardware at the office and found my old Macbook Pro with VirturalBox and Durametric. I've been needing to reset my airbag light for months, and I haven't really felt like dragging the Alienware rig out to the garage.

What!!?? I had always thought Durametric was a PC driven device and wouldn't work with a MAC...?? Does VirtualBox change all that? Please explain.

VirtualBox is a free hypervisor for x86 virtualization - I run Durametric in a Windows 10 virtual machine on my old Macbook Pro. I can't do this on my new M1-powered Macbook since it's an ARM processor instead of x86.

Being able to run MacOS and any other x86-compatible OS on my Macs is one reason I've kept buying overpriced Apple crap over the years. The M1 Macbook Air will probably be my last Mac laptop for this reason - it's just not as useful as an Intel-based Mac was to me.

VMs are also great for downloading software from sketchy websites - if something I download turns out to have a nasty payload, I can just revert the VM to a previous state.

Thanks! Nice to know. Guess I'll hang on to my old Mac just in case.

BTW the explanation was bordering on being posted in the wrong thread, but I "persisted".

Schnelly how did Dura run on a VM? I'm picturing Sean Connery speaking Japanese in Rising Sun as a metaphor.

I used to run it on my 2007 MBP via a Win XP VM, other than the inordinate amount of time to wake the VM up, it worked fine.

With an SSD, it runs perfectly fine - it sucked MUCH worse with spinning rust. I use a "booted" snapshot - so I just restore the VM, launch Durametric, and I'm good to go. It's an unlicensed* - but legal - copy of Windows 10...pm if you want the image.

*Yes it is legal to use, but don't save any critical data in it. The “free” Win-10 is not a full functioning copy, will not update Windows Defender and may at some point shut down. It is intended to show that it is capable of running in your hardware before spending the money on an activation key.

DAMN - decent hotel rooms in Fontana near Auto Club Speedway are going for $300/night. That may not sound like a ton, but...it's pretty much all shithole properties out there.
