So long, Sabine...

Post by 5chn3ll » Wed Mar 17, 2021 9:39 am

Looping the 'ring in her taxi was on my bucket list. I'm genuinely saddened.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

I didn't know she was fighting cancer either. Haven't felt saddened by a celebrity loss like this since Tom Magliozzi. Unlike Tom, whom I listened to every week, I really barely "knew" Sabine. Her personality on the TV appearances I caught really came through, one could tell she was a very bright light. Her taking the piss out of Jeremy Clarkson can still make me laugh to this day. RIP Sabine - Queen of the 'Ring. May you continue to inspire female racers for generations to come!

one of the most badass women in the automotive world.

Watching her beat Clarkson in a van, made me a fan. Rest in Peace

I know I've gone on endlessly about it before, but the first Porsche driving instructor I ever had in my car with me was a guy named Gunter who did nothing but scream FASTER FASTER FASTER the entire time, with that same maniacal smile Sabine had when she was hooning.

She didn't actually beat him in the van, but she was damn close and still proved her point.

Was just reading about her first TG episode (the Jag episode that led to the van episode). Apparently when she took the car out to prove just how terrible Jeremy was they had to bring in a Jag race driver to drive the film car because their driver couldn't keep up with her

How did I miss her on TG? Was she late in the series before everybody got pissy and quit?

Sabine was an intermittent guest on Top Gear...I'm sure the hive mind can put together a season/episode list. The one getting mentioned most here is the van episode:

It's not that uncommon to see someone who does something better than most other folks...but it IS uncommon to see someone who enjoys doing that one thing as much as she did. She looked as happy driving as Daniel Ricciardo does - but with much more mischief.

I'll have to go check that out. I was a sporadic watcher, but enjoyed the show when I remembered to watch. Much better than the American version.
