996 Values going up, up, up

Post by noahsdad » Thu Apr 15, 2021 3:16 pm

I have been following Bring a Trailer for the past few years, and the 996, especially the Aerokit cars, are really going up in value. So glad to see I finally made a good investment. lol

Fingers crossed. I think my grandkids might be the ones to actually profit off my 996 ;)

This has been an interesting idea to me since I purchased in 2015. When I bought the car it was "dream realized" in terms of owning a 911 and I never had any plans to flip it... still I had a conviction in my heart that it would not remain the "cheapest 911" forever. It has been fun to own the car near the end of its "redheaded step-911" stage of life and watching as it begins its life as a classic 911. It never really mattered to me all that much, though, it's special to me and I have to admit I get a sense of satisfaction seeing that it is indeed special to other people as well. Speaking strictly within the sphere of Porsche people, of course. From day 1 of owning it I've gotten nothing but unbridled enthusiasm from the public. I'll never forget filling it up about 6 months after I bought it and a teenage kid walked up to me to ask me if it was the "new 911." It dawned on me very quickly that hardly anybody cared about the noise that populated Porsche message boards / car message boards in general. Still, it's satisfying to see those groups whistling a new tune altogether.

Never gonna sell mine but watching these values climb makes my heart sing for sure.

BT is a bad example to follow as they seem to be adept at attracting suckers. Case in point there is a 986.1 expiring soon that is currently at $16k. While I think that is still under valued, you can buy 2 nice 986s for that price.

If you can get you car on there (ask Frunk about that) and you get a couple suckers bidding against each other, you can get some good money. More likely, however, they won't even accept your car and you will have to sell via another market where you can knock at least $5k off BT based expectations.

I "overpaid" for my aero '99 C4 @ $30K about 8 years ago - but I haven't really put much into the car beyond normal 996 PM, and I think if I hold it a while longer, it'll be worth $30k.

In the same time period, my pop bought a Bentley Arnage for $100K and recently sold it for $30K.

Just sayin'.

I did not really have any plans to hold my 996 after flipping my 986 for it - I figured I'd have it for a year or two. I still have not found a car I like more. I shamefully admit to REALLY liking the targa Miata, tho. That frame with the targa panel on must be everything my Corvette is not.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

As someone who has owned a NC hardtop Miata, I think the ND targa Miata rules. It was my wife's and I stole it on the regular. My head was a good 2-3" over the rollbar, however, and driving it skeeved me out more than any IMSB could. You might want to test fit it before you buy it.

Yeah, I really should’ve kept my ‘99 C4 aero kit. It was a great car, and it is different enough from the ‘02 996tt to justify a spot in the garage (or $50 a month parking in The Underground). The Mk I aero kit cars are some of the most beautiful 911s ever made.

It appears there is some leftover resentment still present in someone. Just guessing here. :D
