I went out early in our 914 to set up the course, and then max$wag came out later as a participant in our '87 951. Despite being cold & windy, it was a fun day - the first time Max has done autocross. He rode with an instructor for the first 2 runs, then went by himself on the 3rd. His times went from 2:18 to 1:48 to 1:40, so good progress.
Here's a video of his 3rd run:

We got some good pictures, too.

How did max like doing AutoX? He looked pretty good out there even when he light the tires up braking for an obstacle!

I see you are one of those gutsy course worker standing at the end of a high speed section with your back to the action!!

If max wants to do more AutoX you need to stiffen that suspension up a bit. He was almost down on the front spoiler and side sill covers in the video and one pic.

Our April AutoX was cancelled due to the parent organization delay in securing necessary insurance which didn't allow the school system enough time to authorize use of their parking lots. :(

Didn't matter to me because once I explained to my heart surgeon what AutoX was and what is involved in doing it his reply to my "Can I do that this Sunday?" was "NO!"

Currently patiently(somewhat) waiting for May 22nd...

Well, hopefully he clears you to participate. Those cardiologists can be PITA. Mine was not pleased with my decision to do a half marathon last June. I got him to give me the green light by promising to drop 30 pounds before the race. At the following annual check-up a few months later, he informed me that my half-marathon days are officially over, even though I got through it without any problems. He said it just isn't worth the risk.

My guy was concerned about the chest incision healing. As I demonstrated the quick steering adjustments necessary he started shaking his head "NO".

I should have just stuck with his first thought that I meant radio control cars...

Nice! The weather looks great; how'd the driving go for you?

Weather was perfect. Driving was ok. While official stats are not out yet my guess is I was middle of pack. Honestly I wasn't pushing too hard in deference to my still healing breast bone. It was still FUN! We each got 8 runs in and were done @ 2:30pm after starting at 11:00am.

Now here is my stupid: I set tire pressures early in morning before driving the car. It was @54f. After two of my last four runs I felt I was getting slower and figured the pressures were now too high because of use and ambient temperature was up to @85f. So I lowered the pressures back down to the morning setting. Last two laps felt ok but were the slowest of the day...and the fastest lap of the day was the one just prior to lowering the pressure. Once home I confirmed "fresh" significant rollover on the left front tire from the high speed sweeper...I'm a dumbass!

That's awesome that you were able to get out and drive! Glad to hear it.

We had KCRPCA Autocross on Saturday morning. I worked the back side of the course again and drove the '87 928S4 out early in the morning to help with set up. For my efforts, I got to take a lap. I was very pleased with the 928's performance. The big V-8 (5.0 liters) was great in the slow parts of the course. We had 2 Chicago boxes in a row right off the first curve, so the first 1/4 mile of the course was very slow. The 928 actually did pretty well in the slalom, too. I think it actually felt faster than the '87 944 Turbo that we took out last time. The 944 Turbo had a ton of body lean, and the 928 stayed flatter. Also, with the 944 Turbo, you have to keep the revs up for the turbo to be a factor, so autocross isn't the ideal situation for that.

max$wag drove the 996tt as an official participant, and he brought my nephew from Madrid out to spectate. We got the nephew a ride-along in one of the instructors' Cayman - he really enjoyed that. Max drove the 996tt on the first 3 laps. He managed to eat a couple of big green cones right before the slalom on the back side. Knocked my front camera out of the bumper.

Then, on the 4th lap, he took the 928S4. Although it was significantly slower than the 996tt, it looked good running through the course.
