They are right, AWD drive cars under steer just like a FWD car. You also can't completely turn off PASM even if you hit the off button. It's not all bad news though.

What you need to do is brake earlier to prep for the turn, though you don't need to brake quite as hard. You can can get back on it again sooner as well (pretty close to as soon as the nose is pointed in the right direction). Once you learn the right pattern you can easily hang with the RWD cars if not out class them.

When we did our first AutoX she drove the 911 and I drove her 328xi. I was easily staying in the same range as the 328i drivers and we were all ahead of the 335i drivers (though that was mostly due to them not understanding boost and just trying to pedal mash their way through).

We didn't do it in the cars, but when I took my P!g out I over inflated my front tires a bit (think it was around 45 vs the usual 36). They were high wall all seasons though and that was to combat the tendency to roll over onto the sidewall. So look at your sidewalls after a couple runs and maybe add a few pounds up front if you are still pushing too much or it looks like your tires are rolling over (I assume you'll have proper low profiles though so that shouldn't be an issue).

I chalk my tires at the start of the first session looking for roll-over and adjust pressures accordingly. The Type R was a pushing pig until I went back to the OEM 240tw low profile tires and found the proper tire pressures. It handles as if it was on rails now. So much more fun when the car does what you ask.

I have found when the body feels like crap the brain is willing to ponder things in the future to avoid wallowing in the pain.

As a quick update: I started feeling almost human a couple of weeks back. I lost a total of 28#'s, however, I have gained 8 of those #'s back during these last two weeks. Cardiologist gave me his blessing this week to move forward with the heart surgeon. Joy...

In round #'s: I weighed in at 210(not bad for an old guy who is 6' 2") and dropped to 180. I haven't weighed 180 since I was 30 years old which was...well a long time ago. I don't recommend losing weight in this manner.

Also in your 4S a limiting factor is going to be negative camber in front - or rather lack of. The factory setup runs very little negative camber and really cannot get anything like enough. I run -3.8 degrees front and get very even tire wear. When I ran the most the factory parts could achieve (something like -1.5 degrees) the front tires wore the outer edges like crazy.

I found more like -.75 is the max with factory setup. How did you get -1.5?

We had KCRPCA Autocross last Saturday, April 22nd. I worked the back side of the course. I went out early in our 914 to set up the course, and then max$wag came out later as a participant in our '87 951. Despite being cold & windy, it was a fun day - the first time Max has done autocross. He rode with an instructor for the first 2 runs, then went by himself on the 3rd. His times went from 2:18 to 1:48 to 1:40, so good progress.
