To finish off the tire saga. My go to tire place put the new Falkens on with zero problems. When talking to the tech before he started he response to the previous shop was "His tire guy doesn't know what he is doing...period." It did take him a longer time than normal to do the swap but he said the Falkens had a really stiff sidewall and he had trouble getting them to seal. Also he had to switch to a different machine.

Stiff sidewalls are a good thing for playing in parking lots...I think.

So second AutoX is this Sunday and I'm excited. Got new Falkens that are stickier with stiffer sidewalls than the all seasons I ran before, plan to leave is Sport rather than R+ per the experts and hope to remember to turn off the nannies every time.

The downside: it's supposed to be 94f with 50% humidity and in the middle of an asphalt parking lot. Joy!

Yea for Summer!

A canopy, a lawn chair, a battery powered camp fan and a cooler with fruit and drinks will make your life much better on Sunday.

Meh. That's nothing. It was over 100 when I did the track day with DT and while I don't know what the humidity was, the lowest it could have been was 70% since that's about the lowest we see outside of winter. I had 3 32oz water bottles and a 64oz growler full of tea and had drunk them all by midday. Lining up on the grid was the worst as it was about 20 minutes of sitting on the pavement with no shade, no breeze, and not allowed to remove your helmet or leave your car.

The March AutoX with the Cayenne was much more palatable!

I'm sure that's still a cool day to what Cuda sees at his desert track though...

Cuda's groups are smart. They cancel the events during the Summer. Of course out there 110-120 is normal.

Cuda said all the race tracks are out in the desert and that does get hot out there, as you well know.

Well I'm friggin' hooked! Today turned out overcast and under 80f. Much less than what was predicted. The new course was big and fast with only two super tight corners which is a struggle for a turbo four door car. Last month I finished 8-10 seconds behind mid pack. With the stickier tires and a more open higher speed course I cut that to around 5 seconds back from mid-pack during the first session which is the only one I ran due to grandkid duty. Each lap got quicker and I didn't hit any cones nor run off the course. I remembered to "partially" turn off VSA and leave in Sport mode which I think also made a big difference.

One part was a slight left uphill with a transition seam at the top from incline to flat after the first exploratory lap I could actually feel the car get light over the top of that as it was full throttle near the top of second gear. I'm sure I didn't get any air, but could definitely feel it.
