Weather was perfect. Driving was ok. While official stats are not out yet my guess is I was middle of pack. Honestly I wasn't pushing too hard in deference to my still healing breast bone. It was still FUN! We each got 8 runs in and were done @ 2:30pm after starting at 11:00am.

Now here is my stupid: I set tire pressures early in morning before driving the car. It was @54f. After two of my last four runs I felt I was getting slower and figured the pressures were now too high because of use and ambient temperature was up to @85f. So I lowered the pressures back down to the morning setting. Last two laps felt ok but were the slowest of the day...and the fastest lap of the day was the one just prior to lowering the pressure. Once home I confirmed "fresh" significant rollover on the left front tire from the high speed sweeper...I'm a dumbass!

Only 8 runs? At the SDR AX we used to get 10 -15 practice runs and 4 timed ones and that was with sometimes 100 cars

Sometimes 4 or maybe 5. About every 15-20 seconds IIRC. Our typical AX course was over a mile

Yea, IIRC, the old parking lot was one of or the biggest contiguous parking lots in the western hemisphere

Yesterday was the July AutoX AND my 73rd birthday!

To treat myself I decided to try the C4S at AutoX for the first time. While I still enjoy the Honda CTR I have one thing to say about the C4S...HOLY SHITBALLS!

There is a VAST difference between a Civic(even a 306hp 295ftlbs torque Civic) and a Porsche!!! I felt like I was driving a REAL race car. It was AWESOME! The oldest kid stopped by and I took him on a ride along. He is a big Porsche nut but has never owned one and was thrilled at the opportunity. He was absolutely silent during the 70 second run. When he got out his only comment was "I have never been in a car that goes from slow to that fast in such a short amount of time!" His huge grin told the rest of the story.

While my times were respectable(not yet published) I realized the car had a ton more to offer. Slaloms became pretty much straight line full acceleration non-events. The one "half box" didn't require any braking and very little throttle modulation, just drive it through. It was a treat!

A side story: a dude who knows a crap ton about AutoX and vehicles used for that has always told me "that C4S is going to push like a pig...they all do." I tried to understand why as my brain said extra weight in the front plus the small amount of front wheel pulling should help it corner. He said no. Yesterday he said I had too much air in my fronts(40) because our track is on blacktop(old crappy blacktop) not concrete. I left the air alone. After my first four runs he walked over and said "Thats not pushing at all...is it?" I just smiled and responded "not one bit."

I have never driven a car in a spirited" manner that seems to read your mind, but this one does. Now if I can figure out if the PSM was on or off because I never got the red light on the dash that says "PSM OFF". I got it all crossed up once and didn't feel any nanny trying to save me so maybe it was off. I also found out that old 140TW tires heat up nicely and get real sticky!

I was thinking about middie vs tail dragger yesterday. I bet the Boxta'/Cayman would be awesome at AutoX. Not only engine position but they are smaller lighter vehicles.

Hhhmmm...wonder if the wife would go for it?
