My BringATrailer.com Selling Experience

How will FRUNK's BaT auction turn out?

It's going to be awesome - FRUNK will get top dollar in an easy-peasy transaction.

It'll be "meh" - lots of work and waiting for it to bring a price that he could have sold it anywhere for.

Oh, this is gonna be a freakin' trainwreck - the auction commenters will tear the car up, FRUNK will lose his mind over it, and the entire thing will go up in a fiery, self-immolating explosion. Definitely "must see TV" to watch this auction. I can't wait!

So do I know the KC area buyer? Hope the result got you past the break even point...not counting the mental cost of getting something ON BAT.

My reserve was $17,000, so it just met reserve at $17,000 sale price. To be honest, I am disappointed with the price - I feel that I could have sold it privately for $19,000. At anything less than $17,000, I would have just kept it and dealt with the wrath of the wife.

That being said, I am very happy it is staying in KC. The buyer is a KCRPCA member, and he said that we had met before at a club function. But he is not a breakfast regular. It is for his dad, and they came over Sunday to test drive it. Really nice people - so I am happy for them. I am glad it’s not going to a dealer just to flip it. Plus, I will still get to see it at events. I suspect it will be at the All German Car Show in October.

Darn. Silver lining I suppose that it is staying "in the family."

Come on guys I live in Vegas. If it's staying in KC who wants to bet he buys it back? 2024? I've got 5:1 on 2023. Come on boys who's game?

The big question is... how much did you have in the car? (including tax, maintanence, upgrades, etc.) Did you at least break even?

Technically, even though both of my 996 sold for market value, I lost money on both of my 996 because I put too much into them. That was my choice. However, I did enjoy my time with both cars. My Cayman is truly a blast. This time around I'm not dumping money into stupid mods. haha

Nah. He still misses his 996 C4, but he passed on getting it back for about exactly what he paid for it. I don't think this 914 ever made a similar connection, so unless he can pick it back up for a stupid deal I just don't see it coming back.

Ha - yeah, someday maybe I might buy it back. I actually like that blue color better than red on a 914. I'll tell the buyer to contact me if he ever wants to sell. I should have done that with the '99 C4 aero.

In the end, I did make money on it. Not much, but a small profit. I had the seats redone, it needed new tires, ABS rocker panel covers, installed the new steering wheel, new Bluetooth stereo (which was inexpensive), accelerator cable, carb tune, valve adjustment, and a few other small things. Not to mention sales tax and licensing. But, I still came out ahead because I got a great deal on it last year.

I tickled the 996Outpost supercomputer's bits enough to determine that the correct answer is "It'll be "meh" - lots of work and waiting for it to bring a price that he could have sold it anywhere for."

Maybe next time I can provide this information on a useful timeline. But probably not.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

Well, you were 6 months off, Doc. Who had "June 2022" in the pool as the buyback date?
