Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
It was not quite warm enough out to do what I need to do: Up on jackstands, wheels off, oil change etc., and CLEAN the wheel wells and wheels, so I did the next best thing: drove. I figured that being St. Patrick's Day, most of the crowds, drunks, traffic, and law enforcement would be up in the northern part of Overland Park and over in KCMO for their beloved parade. Good guess. I had a lot of unobstructed driving and the Valentine 1 only sounded off once - false alarm.
I went south and found a gas station at 199th & Metcalf Ave. that has no-ethanol premium. Excellent. This station is in familiary territory - it's on the way to Stonegate Motor Plaza, one of the car-condo projects in the area, and Black Horse Motorwerks, a good local shop that specializes in high-end Euros. The guy at the station made me feel good when he said "I see a LOT of awesome cars come through here, but I've never seen a Porsche in that color." I gave him the Cliff Notes version of Vesuvius Gray Metallic, filled up and moved on. Only did about 35 miles overall, but I did get to push the car some. It was good to be out in the sun - without piles of snow about. I was also grateful that we have not [yet] had the flooding they've had up north in Nebraska/IA. Fingers crossed for all of them.

What you did today is one of the best days with a 996! Enjoy.Einsteiger wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 1:16 pm It was not quite warm enough out to do what I need to do: Up on jackstands, wheels off, oil change etc., and CLEAN the wheel wells and wheels, so I did the next best thing: drove. I didn't take the car anywhere, but sorting through some things I found a set of protective sockets for varying sizes of lugs. The 19mm fits fine on my current wheels and the real bonus is that these are impact sockets. I double-checked. Christmas all over again - I forgot I had these - bought them about a year after I got the 560SL and must have put them away. My DeWalt impact driver is supposed to arrive on Monday. Nice coincidence.

Got the 996 retinted with 3M Crystalline. 90 on the windshield, and 70 all around. Very pleased with how it looks and well the 3m tint rejects heat.

this is a great idea. does it reject glare well at night too? I have really sad night vision and the side and rear windows of my 996 were already tinted when I got it last year..looking for other solutions.

Nice but chilly day in Ohio - but went ahead and removed the hard top in aticipation of warmer days ahead. Took it for a drive for fun. Daughter wanted to go, but is always cold, so she wore her Arctic parka. in any case we had fun.

After using yesterday [sunny, 70 ] to clean up the 996, I drove to the weekly Porche Club breakfast. Great turnout today - I estimated 45+. I waited too long to get out and take a picture, as many had left before I got this pick. My 996 is waaayy down near the far end.
