The clutch pedal has been spongy for a while and the engage point has been close to the floor, but I've been wondering if its all in my head. So, it needs at minimum a new clutch slave and bleed if not a new master clutch cylinder. Anyone done this? I am this close to calling my indy, I really don't want to mess with it if its going to be a PITA. Too much other shit going on. Wayne Dempsey says its easy, but guys on the other place say its not.

Never done that job, but my clutch pedal went all wonky(similar to what you are reporting) just prior to sending the car to FSI for an engine reconstruction. Jake emailed me after receiving the car and said feels like your pressure plate is blown up. Never did hear the rest of the story but it is good now. Of course the clutch and pressure plate is part of the FSI process.

Might just be the shitty shift linkage popping off the transmission...

Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
I don't think its just that. If I pump the pedal a lot, I can get enough hydraulic pressure to get it into gear. But the pedal is still too close the floor, and I think it'll just be hard to get it into gear again eventually. I either have a leak (the brake fluid resevoir is pretty close to the top) or the master and/or slave is bad. I hope its not the mechanicals, the clutch is only 25K old.

If you’re having to pump it up to shift, there should be a puddle somewhere.

Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
Mine got a real light pedal and, when stopped, if you put it in gear the car would slightly want to move in the direction you shifted. In addition it was somewhat more difficult to get in gear. I checked the shift cables at the transmission but they were good. As above I'm sure Jake was right about my pressure plate being toast. At 25k I hope this is not OB2000's problem.

Yeah I don't think those exist in Porsche theology...

I hope my spilled oil may appease the Porsche gods on behalf of my 996 brothers. Hear my prayer. For every chain guide there is a light bulb. For every differential seal there is a window regulator. And for every ECU malfunction there is a motor mount. So, for when the gearbox cries, send to OceanBlue the fluid change. Amen.
