What did you do to/with your 996 today?

1) I know you didn't ask this but you've got to Auto-X that 996 and burn those suckers up before you replace them. For all of the (due) accreditation you give the man - you owe bald tires to Jake Raby.

2) I went with Reconditioned TechArt Formula I wheels because they were STILL $4,000 used & refinished, and I just flat could not afford new wheels (that I liked,) for this car. They are SO EXPENSIVE.

There was a Rennlist member named Tim Wasmer (RIP, sadly no longer stunting on us with his gorgeous Turbo,) I absolutely fell in love with his car and his wheels - I'll post a pic below. He was on the TechArt Formula I.

To make a long story short there is nothing wrong in my opinion with purchasing a used wheel so long as the seller can prove to you they have not been repaired/damaged and they spin true. Painting wheels, in my experience in a metro area, was $250/per. (2018) So really not bad for "new to me" wheels on a "new to me" car.

Billy, if you aren't gonna track/X the car and the wheels aren't giving you trouble on the street, I say keep 'em rolling and just keep you eye out for a good deal on the wheels you want. If there is any chance you want to really put it through its paces, replace the wheels first.

My guess for the original damage is probably a nasty pothole or curb hit. I can't imagine a reputable wheel shop welding those wheels given what the car is built for, but if it balances and holds air, they at least had a good welder in the shop. Welding alloy wheels is notoriously a pain in the ass and hard to get right.

The only tire notation on the CarFax(which doesn't mean much) was "one tire mounted and alignment checked" by Porsche of Omaha...hhhmmm?

So went out today started the 996 and it proceeded to display "the AOS is failing" smoke screen. After it quit fogging for mosquitos I gently warmed the car up then tested the vacuum. Yep -20 inH2O! Fook me running! So now I have to see if my Indi can handle the replacement using the UAOS from Skip on RL(dammit!) cause I sure the Hell ain't gonna do it!

Today I changed the painter's tape I've been using to keep the driver-side inside door latch closed so the interior lights don't run down the battery because I have been too "busy" (read: lazy) to change the spring.

*sigh* I am so ghetto.

So went out today started the 996 and it proceeded to display "the AOS is failing" smoke screen.

Just tell your neighbors you were Sea Foaming it.

At least you are replacing the painter's tape and not using baling wire nor duck(sic) tape.

I am 100% sure none of my neighbors know nor care what Sea Foam does/is.

The bottom 1/4 of the driver's side exterior mirror is black plastic. A retainer clip apparently broke. I used black electrical tape to hold it up as a temporary quick fix because, well, the black electrical tape "matched". That was shortly after I got the car back in 2015. After replacing the electrical tape at least 4 or 5 times since then, I finally got around to the permanent fix of superglueing it.

(BTW, the 996outpost spellchecker says "superglueing" is not a real word)
