Flying?

If so I don't want to see you involved in any drunken brawls on the plane over face masks unless you are one of the dudes whipping somebody's azz for being stupid.

I will sit quietly and wear my mask and try REALLY hard not to punch anyone in the throat.

Lots of that is easy at least - or should be easy.

The non-functioning cruise is interesting. You don't have ABS/PSM lights going off I'm assuming?

My "long time sittin'" oil drip is seeping cam plugs. Just throwing that out there in case we get a lucky match and saves you time.

It's been an eventful week...

I finally succeeded in blowing up the engine in my track focused VW last week. This was not really a surprise... I had hoped it would last until the end of the season. It didn't. The last lap of the first session last Monday I got low oil pressure and low coolant lights with 0 oil pressure on the gauge (not very accurate). It made it all the way to the pits. And that was that. I had to get it towed home. It's still sitting here, leaking some kind of fluid. Mind, we've had 10 inches of rain since I put it here.

So it's time to tune up the worthless 996 to have a better suspension setup. I got some goodies: GT3 lower control arms with Tarett monoball inner joints and (not shown) solid camber pucks.

These are Phenix Engineering rear upper control arms (dog bones) made right here in Massachusetts by my friend Noah. Very nice stuff.

I already have a set of Bilstein PSS9 coilovers and Tarret rear toe links, so those complete the rear suspension refresh. Very nice.

Now, the front: More goodies. Tarett upper strut mounts/camber plates. I had to machine the inserts to fit the PSS9 struts, the Tarett plates are configured for 12mm strut rods and PSS9 uses 14mm.

I also have a set of Elephant Racing adjustable lower control arms for the front. I seem to have forgotten to take a picture of these, anyway they look like this. Image
That takes care of the front! Now I have monoballed everything except the rear upper strut mounts.

I finished up putting all this on Tuesday night at 10:30 PM and got a friend to pick me up at the race shop that's going to do the alignment and corner balance at 7:30 AM on Wednesday. Wednesday morning comes, and I get about 50 yards on the journey and the car stalls. Won't restart. Dammit. We flat-towed it back to my place, I already knew what the problem was. Can you see the problem here?

I installed an upgraded fuel pump last week, which needs a short section of submersible fuel line to make the connection. I guess Radium Engineering supplied regular fuel line which is a no-no to run submerged in gas. The black line softened up in three days and was like jelly, the clamp lost it's grip, and the line popped off the fuel pump. Dammit again! Cancel that alignment appointment.

Last night I made an expeditious repair to the fuel pump as I had not yet gotten the submersible fuel hose I needed (GATES 27093). Then, with some heebie-jeebies I set out on the 25 mile drive to the race shop. It was very dark, I had an "eyeball alignment", and I didn't want to be fixing the fuel pump, again, on the side of the highway.
I have to report the trip was a complete success. Despite now having monoball suspension throughout the car is not as harsh as I had expected. The NVH is a lot higher, which the track tires (NT01's) add to as well. But that's OK! Even with my "eyeball alignment" the car drove amazingly, super precise, fantastically accurate steering, and no clunking or banging. Since I really only use this car as a track car I'm satisfied. I do drive it to the track so I will have to be on watch for our massive potholes.
I can't wait to get it back from the race shop with the track alignment. The next track day is Tuesday - I hope it's ready!

Sorry about the VW. Oil running out on that end is never a good sign. Glad the 996 performed up to your expectations.

I am jealous of the dog bones. Those are a work of art. Well... all those pieces are works of art!

It has been a few years since I've conditioned the leather so I'm getting on that while it is still hot outside. This stuff works better the hotter it is. I'm a Leatherique guy. Cleans up surprisingly easily and leaves a satin finish. I'll probably do 2 or 3 applications of the oil before I start doing the cleaner, though. The shifter leather feels like cardboard..

What I am doing because of my 996 is paying a speeding ticket.
