Rear spoiler mod

Post by noahsdad » Mon Dec 06, 2021 3:40 pm

Hello 996ers,

I have replaced my rear decklid with a fixed ducktail, and I cannot figure out how to safely and reversibly turn off the dash warning light. I was able to find info on how to do it on a 993, but I am not sure that will work on the 996. It involved jumping wires in the engine bay loom that plugs into the decklid.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Gracias,

-Hans

There's a replacement 996 wiring harness for use with fixed spoilers that keeps the dash warning light "off". Google "996 fixed spoiler wiring harness".

A quick review of the Rennlist (dammit) thread that popped up provided the appropriate part numbers as well as a hack for using the less expensive harness with spoilers without their own integrated brake light. It might be possible to use the information in the hack to figure out how to modify your stock harness, but that takes electrical engineering knowledge -- I became a Chemical Engineer in part to avoid as many EE classes as possible!

Does the light stay on endlessly, or does it shut off after you drive a few feet forward?

Assuming the former, but wanted to point out that the latter is the expected behavior.

This might be useful:

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.
