After being angry about the pathetic performance of my "Chicago Electric" (Harbor Freight) 125-amp dual-voltage stick welder for YEARS, I finally spent the whopping $100 to try out a Display4Top (the same sketchy Chinese brand that made my plasma cutter) 160-amp, dual-voltage inverter welder (thanks, Jeff Bezos).
As a natural-born skeptic, I plugged that bish into a 200V outlet and cranked the amperage dial up to 160, notched up a 1/16" mild steel rod, and struck an arc on my test piece.
The arc was great, if unexpectedly bright - but within 2-3 seconds, the steel core melted out of the rod and the whole rod caught fire.
I dialed the amperage down to 60 - and still burned another test rod in less than 5 seconds.
This inverter tech is The Shit (tm).

You - quite literally - have no idea.

It is better not to know any details and, therefore, maintain Sargent Schultz status.

Some of that Chinese stuff is surprisingly good. I was looking at that plasma cutter because it's cheap enough that I could use it for the one project I have in mind and if it stays working afterwards, that's pure win.

It tends to eat consumables pretty quickly - but you can buy a bunch of the consumables for $20 or so.
