The time has not yet come.

Given the amount of interest exhibited in keeping the Outpost around, I'm not going to pull the plug. I will be exploring ways to move forward that don't involve sheer laziness on my part.

Thanks for giving a damn.

All:

This is a difficult post to write 5+ years after starting this site - but I believe the time has come for 996Outpost.com to gracefully fade into oblivion, kind of like Gnat's presence and Kalashnikov's dignity. Heh.

Membership has been stagnant for a couple of years - and though I know there are several of us who enjoy hanging out here, the site is now more of a clubhouse for 996-owning miscreants than a destination for 996 enthusiasts.

Please use the time between now and August 31 to PDF any threads you find valuable (you can click the wrench icon in any topic and choose Print View to get a more PDF-friendly version of the topic) and to PM any friends you want to keep in touch with once the site is offline.

I will be keeping a copy of the site database as well as PDFs of all of the DIY articles; if you need to find someone or you can't remember how to swap out that brake light switch, the info will still be around. I'll be working with B3 to see if there's a way we can add this content to his Facebook 996 enthusiast group and/or any other sites that might find the info worthwhile.

This has been a fantastic time - and I've enjoyed jackassing around with all of you - but I think the writing is on the wall for sites like ours. Social media / instant answers is where things are at, so I'll see you all on InstaFaceGramChatBook soon.

Also - fuck you to the Rennlist mod(s) that shut down the original Good Week thread. I hope you are blessed with a giant bag of rotten, drippy dick tips.

Your pal,

5chn3ll

*EDIT*
I created a Google Group to make it easy for those of us who want to keep in touch to do so.

Shoot me a PM with the email address you want to use if you'd like to be added to the group. Once you're added (you'll get a notification via email), you can just send email to 996outpost@googlegroups.com to email everyone on the list.

x2

It’s been fun. But, I just don’t find myself drawn to any of the forums like I used to be. I guess it’s just the evolution of the way we use the internet.

Any of you guys find yourself in KC, please swing by the auto museum - there’s a great BBQ joint just down the street with cold beer.

Well, not surprised. And honestly Dallas, this is endemic of the car culture. Old farts like yourselves make up 95% of car meets and even BJ in Arizona. I rarely see guys my age who are into cars, much less into DIY stuff. Sad, but my kids will not give a single F about intakes, exhausts, or N2O. Once self driving is perfected, and it is already here in AZ....the do it yourself drivers will be akin to manual transmission cars today.

Understandable but sad to me. I feel like I’m losing some good friends

I totally get it, doesn't mean I am not sad. I haven't checked in here too much lately, work has been all-encompassing and when that klaxon isn't going off, the kids and wife want to know what I'm doing.

But I had fun. These cars get a lot of shit, in the press and even among fellow Porschefiles, although that is changing I think. It was nice in any case to have a place where similarly touched in the head 996 owners could commiserate and talk shit behind RL's back. See you back over there, I guess -- vomit.

I guess the only remaining question is where is the URL going to forward to? Indonesian Amazon.com? A ladies underwear surplus in Argentina? A YouTube video of an IMS bearing exploding?

Farewell, one and all. Happy motoring.

First off -- THANK YOU for setting the Outpost up in the first place and then for running it for the last umpteen years. No small feat. I have thoroughly enjoyed the ad-free, (mostly) drama-free, *quality* content found only here. I genuinely appreciate that, and your efforts, very much.

True story -- I frequently drove by this location when commuting between my primary and country homes. An involuntary shudder always hit me, and to this day my bride doesn't understand why...but those of us RL refugees certainly do!

I was thinking of registering "RennlistEatsDickThreeTimesADay.com" and having the URL redirect there...
