Be forewarned - "fine, do whatever you want" apparently does NOT qualify as spousal consent. I found this out the day I came home with the 996.
Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Same thing for me. Mind you, I just bought her a Tahoe and my daughter a Volvo XC60 and so I guess I had enough brownie points to pull it off. I'm like... I ready for another Porsche. She's like, "I don't care what you do"... I didn't know how to take that comment at the time, but I came home with the car and she and the girls were very pleased with it other than... "You didn't get an automatic!??".
That's the only part she'll never understand. 
Manual trans is part of the fun.
