Re: New Member Intros
Welcome. As a C4 owner that does drive year round, I've never once wished it was a C2 or considered making it a wannabe C2 by removing the front shaft.
It is quite a capable and fun car all times of the year on and off the track. You'll lose more performance in the Cab than the C4 coupe (heavier and not as stiff).
If your heart is set on a C2 cab though, talk to Water Hound. I don't know the particulars of his car, but he mentioned he might be selling his 04 Cab in the spring (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=811). Maybe you can help each other out...

Thank you for the comments.
Strangelove, I'm willing to start a search post. I looked and didn't see any such post already there to inspire myself. Should I just to it at the main level? I don't want to do a forum faux pas and get ostracized for it...
I'm in Ottawa, Ontario.
Are all 996 affected by the IMS and RMS bearing problems? While contacting tome sellers I was told that theirs was not affected. I was polite and just turned away. Am I right to understand that all 996 are plagued by that virus?
Gnat, thanks for the link I'll look into it.
Cheers!

Don't worry about faux pas here. The mods are very understanding and sometimes the worst of the batch! Which is one reason this forum was begun.Jetblast wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 6:13 am Thank you for the comments.

All 996 engines can be subject to IMSB problem but not all have issues. 99's and some 2000's have a double row bearing that has a much lower failure rate. Unfortunately there is no way to tell what bearing is in there without pulling the transmission. There is a lot of hype around this issue due to the fact that when the bearing fails the repairs become extremely expensive. I have a 2005 C4S and didn't change the IMSB until it was diagnosed with score liners which required a total engine reconstruction. The reconstructed engine is equipped with The Solution plain bearing device so I don't fear the IMSB failure, which I did before. The RMS problem is simply an oil seal issue and not bearing issue.
Never gonna make you cry...

No worries at all. I think the Carrera forum is as good as any to post in: viewforum.php?f=4
Ditto on Billy's sentiments, this is a fun-loving place. Think of 996 Outpost as a friendly neighborhood Porsche pub with occasional ball-busting and perpetual tomfoolery; but nobody is going to throw a punch (below the belt.)
Glad you found us

Getting in trouble around here takes some doing (I haven't been thrown out yet)...
Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.
Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

I've tried Schnelly, but it says I can't do that. You need to up my access!
Another vote for not letting the IMSB hysteria rule you.
The only correction I'll make to what has been said is that the single row started in 00, but some 01s (ours for example) still got a dual row).

If the IMS bearing really bothers you, then get a ‘99 model, which assures you a dual-row bearing. Then, never worry about it again. Of course, there is another IMS bearing-worry-free 996 option: the 996 turbo. But I’ve heard those turbo guys are all pricks.

I don't know about that, but there is a correlation between those that have red ones and are not funny...
