Ok so I know the point is it can be done with a "pen" which is cool. My question is what do you think is the estimate of weight and durability(asked by a guy who raced 1/8th scale nitro asphalt cars and 1/10th scale electric indoor cars) of this body.

If I was driving, I think I lasted about 30 seconds before my first roll the other day when I took my 1/8 monster out for the first time in ages (Brushless 4S LiPo FTW!).

The Bondo probably helps with integrity, but one good hit and it's done. Definitely not practical, but really cool that he could do it with a 3D pen.

Interestingly, just yesterday I was looking at Blaze and the Monster Machines pics to see if I could figure out how to make a Blaze body for either my 1/8th or the oldest's 1/10th. The youngest is monster truck crazy at the moment and loves the Blaze Hot Wheels style trucks he took from his brother. I suck at modeling though

I have a couple of those 3D pens that print with PLA filament; I've always put them in the novelty category.

Like Gnat said, it's cool that he pulled that off with a pen. Any attempt I made would, as my dear ol' grandpa Theodore Roosevelt (not an OG - but still legit first and middle names) used to say, look like a bear's ass sewed up with a grapevine.

So we got some snow this morning and the oldest and I took our RC trucks out to have some fun. He got a bit big for himself, however, and rammed his 1:10 brushed truck into my 1:8 brushless which was probably doing 30mph at the time. I thought it was an accident, but he fessed up later that he was trying to hit me...

So this happened: So some PETG and 2 hours on the printer produced: It's not going to hold up to significant abuse, but hopefully should last until the aluminum replacements show up later in the week.

Nicely done! Aluminum will break too...

It's not going to hold up to significant abuse, but hopefully should last until the aluminum replacements show up later in the week.

Any kind of composite over-wrap - epoxy with glass fiber or shredded CF - would make those things exponentially stronger. Maybe stronger (by mass) than aluminum...

Woah that's cool gnat. What kind of scan tool do you use for the replacement? Or were the replacement schematics available online?

Someone had already made the model and I just grabbed it of thingiverse.com.

I paid $30 for the aluminum replacements (came in yesterday even though I forgot to order them Sunday like I meant and Amazon said they'd arrive tomorrow) so I wouldn't have wasted the time modeling and testing.
