Saved a man this weekend...

I didn't save his life, but I saved his man card. A buddy was poised to buy a Mini*; I talked him into a Toyota 86 instead. His previous car was an M3 (Yay!) with the semi-automatic SMG gearbox (Boo!)...

He's not in the best physical health, so I was a little worried about the 86's ride - until he texted me a photo of the 86 parked on one of the most awesome morning driving roads (up Sunrise Highway past Lake Cuyamaca) on Sunday at about 8AM with the following caption:
"Cuyamaca with a big-ass grin...nice way to spend a Sunday morning!"

I knew the 86 would be a great car for him - his commute is about 2 miles, so there is no "daily driver" rough ride tax like people with REAL commutes have to deal with.

By Mini, I mean one of the BMWs with a mini badge, not an actual Mini Cooper. If it had been an original Cooper Works, I would have encouraged him to make that terrible decision instead...

Nice work. I had a Mini Cooper S about 10 years ago. It was actually kind of fun, but I found myself driving like a complete A-hole all of the time because I liked zipping in and out of traffic during rush hour. I kept it for about 3 or 4 months and then flipped (sold) it to a guy with a driving school (for new drivers).

I get a lot of people at track days in their DD looking for something else to track and get a lot of questions about the miata which is obviously a really fun and cheap car but I steer them to the 86 cars as an actual car that is really fun and still relatively cheap.
