Just a thought, after unlocking the car (which I assume you are using the manual physical key), the immobilizer still needs to read the key RFID pill from the ignition switch surround to KNOW it is the right key and the car is not being stolen....so put the key in the ignition before hooking up the power. Otherwise I think the immobilizer will keep everything locked down, including the frunk release, and blare the alarm horn.

Yeah tried it with the key out, key in at Off, and key in at On.

Any chance your ignition switch has gone dodgy? I know the RFID pill is wireless (hence the clever initialism), but if the ignition switch needs to be in a specific position, we all know that contact assembly bolted to the the back of the ignition cylinder isn't exactly celebrated for longevity and reliability...

I've considered the possibility, but I'd like to get the horn to stop blaring so I can consider it more in peace and quiet ;)

Have you tried the "flip the battery in the fob, wait a second, and put it back in properly" trick?

Crossposted from the toolbag thread:
Can you find the rear cable release? You can use the remote posts in the engine bay to jump start if you can get to that rear release - and that one is WAY easier to just reach up and grab compared to the front trunk release cable...

It would be, if that cable wasn't pinned up between the bumper skin and muffler heat shield...

If you think there's any chance you could get to the locking mechanism from below with an extension tool, I'm happy to go shoot some photos of the mechanism.

Or you could brick your window...

He's in the car just not in the frunk.
