That'll buff out - 958 edition
Re: That'll buff out - 958 edition
So the shop is finally starting to working on it only to promptly find that the wheel lock key is missing
My Indy only uses their master key set, so it's highly doubtful they lost it. The only other place that would have had the wheels off would be the Porsche dealer...
So I call the dealer to find about getting it replaced and their answer was:
PD: sure we can help. Just bring it in so we can figure out which key you need.
me: it's at a body shop and not drivable
PD: oh... Try service?
My Indy is cool though so I'm going to swing by tomorrow, grab the master sets, go remove the locks, and take the sets back.

Re: That'll buff out - 958 edition
Yeah I'm considering that. With my luck someone would actually steal the wheels then
Re: That'll buff out - 958 edition
It is actually being worked on!
And after 13 years Porsche clearly didn't learn anything about bumper/radiator housing design...
Re: That'll buff out - 958 edition
Called my local dealer about getting a replacement key. They want $49 and just telling him the code or even bringing him a bolt apparently wasn't good enough. He wants the whole vehicle
Got a bit pissy when I ended the call with "Well for that price, I'll just order 4 plain bolts at $5 each...".

In that pic, it bears a striking resemblance to your 996.

PSA for owners of newer Porsches
If you have one of them fancy keys that looks more like a car than a key and the battery in the actual car is dead DO NOT put said key into the ignition until you are ready to jump the car. Once inserted it will not let the key go
Joys of a shop that takes so long, your battery goes flat

Re: That'll buff out - 958 edition
So after two months they are starting to work on the car?
Re: That'll buff out - 958 edition
"Starting" might be a bit of a stretch, but yeah. They've pulled it apart so they can get parts ordered and file any supplements that are needed. Now it's just sitting back in the parking lot without it's front end waiting on the supplement review and parts.
He's exceptionally slow, but his painter and body guy is also exceptionally good.

What of you had just one car? Would the insurance cover two months of rental car?
