New Corvette!
Mid-engine, really good specs and under $60K. Mid engine configuration has some really big advantages for a sports car. The only issue is maintenance access, and you're not going to worry about that too much with a new car. Definitely a Cayman fighter, if not competition to the 911. The new Supra and the NSX just got cheaper.
Maybe this new one will widen the Corvette's appeal beyond old guys wearing Planet Hollywood leather jackets. At least, that's who I see driving them around here.

"since the Taft Administration"
That is about what it feels like.
Two questions:
1) Why was Chevy's visual design directive "Rip off Ferrari, badly".
2) Why since the early 80s has Chevy been incapable of hiring designers that know how to design a nice looking ass end of a car?

Re: New Corvette!
I would rock it, that is a lot of car for 60k, half of a 991.1 GT3 is. If they put a manual in it then count me in for sure, no reason to pay the Porsche tax on a GT4

Re: New Corvette!
Idk. C5 z06 FRC is still on my radar. Raw, manual, very quick, and looks great.
This one looks high tech and digital. GM can't do electronics or high tech.

Re: New Corvette!
Performance-wise they've made a new name for themselves since the turn of the century. They are just ugly in my opinion and continue to have that "gold chains and chest hair" vibe to their look. This one has some nice aspects, but it looks like a blocky/angular version of a Ferrari (Ferrari/Lambo bastard step child?) and still maintains that terrible (sorry Schnelly) feel that they started with the 80s cars. The original Stingray was the last Vette that really looked good.Kalashnikov wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 12:10 pm Idk. C5 z06 FRC is still on my radar. Raw, manual, very quick, and looks great.

Re: New Corvette!
My pop's base C7 hauls ass, and nothing has busted in 2 years. I know that's not a ton of data, but it's first-hand.
Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.
Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

...and I find it fugly just plain FUGLY!
I would buy a 69 Vette 427ci 435hp L89 with a manual shift before that...that's just Fugly!
Never gonna make you cry...
Re: New Corvette!
1) The C8 is pretty obviously based on the C7 - at least to me. I don't see the stolen design language...
2) Agreed. The back - which to me looks like re-heated "new" Camaro styling - is just as ugly as the C7.

Re: New Corvette!
Starting with the 80s design abomination they have actually been pretty Porsche like for keeping the generations similar enough that you can debadge them and put this next to an 84 and 80-90% of people asked will tell you that they are related.
Maybe Ferrari is wrong. A Google Image Search of the first image of the article turns up the McLaren MP4-12C as the first hit though and they aren't wrong...
Edit: It's the 458 that it reminds me of actually. The 458 also has an ugly ass. Maybe Chevy stole the 458 designers?
