Not exactly the most environmentally friendly mindset... :P
I don't think it will matter, bcz:
-We'll all be dead of Coronavirus by the first part of May;
-Greta says we've got, what, 7 years left?
-You said we've got some techy glitch that's going to kill us all in 2038.
My snarky side has been tempted to point out to the Uber Enviros that maybe they should be lobbying to do nothing about COVID-19 as it might be Mother Nature's attempt to set things back in balance...

Funny how all that "respect nature" ranting goes out the window when nature wants to kick us in the balls...

As you are used to plasma, however, you're likely only going to find an OLED as an acceptable replacement when the time comes.
Yeah and I've not seen any OLED sets for $269!
OLED or better will be my next step, but as it looks, my three Panasonic Plasmas are performing just well. The colorimetry, phasing, contrast resolution, and gamma beats most of the current offerings these days IMHO.

I recycle all my old electronics at my town's yearly "drop off your old crap for recycling" event. So, even if the TCL pops it'll have new life as...well I don't know what they do with it but I suspect it's not just going to a landfill.

A) Is that still going on? Many places (including all the counties around me :x ) have been canceling such things over the last year due to cost and ethics.

B) Make sure the company running the service isn't one of the ones (most it seems) that is shipping all the junk to poor nations to either be dumped there or stripped down by kids in near-slave conditions with zero protection from the heavy metals they are handling day in and day out.

I have piles of boxes of old electronics crap that I want to end up somewhere other than the landfill, but no way to get rid of it for the last 3 years :x

Indeed. I bought my Pioneer Plasma in 99. My OLED is 5 years old now and I still miss the picture quality of that Plasma

Don't they send all that stuff to Giiinnna or some third world country where 10 year old barefooted utes strip them with their bare hands to get the three ounces of usable metals then throw the rest in the nearest ocean?

I hate to be a skeptic(no not really...) With the China decline to accept recycling and the loaded containers traveling all over the world looking for a home I'm beginning to think that the recycle industry is kind of a scam. I always thought the stuff went to a local facility that had equipment and employees that separate stuff so it can be dealt with in an environmentally friendly way. I guess I've been mislead.

The law in NJ is that these things have to be recycled and cannot be put in the trash, so I hope at least some of it is getting treated correctly. You can send stuff back to Best Buy or wherever, you don't have to use the free government resources. The last time I took my gigantic old desktop to one of these things, I took it in the 928 because it wouldn't fit in the crappy Nissan we had. That job took a while because all the dudes there wanted to discuss the 928.

Different HDMI cable in a different input plug and...it's back! It comes and goes. Two minutes after taking pic it is perfectly clear.

Bummer.

I'll be happy to trade a slightly used C4S for an OLED TV. Since we all know 996s are crap you'll be able to tell the wife about the awesome deal you made.
