I think one of my plasma tv is dying

I knew I shouldn't have bragged them up. The other day after running for a while the 42" Panasonic displayed a 3.5" wide vertical distorted bar right down the middle of the screen. Is it in it's death throes or what?

That's what I figured. I hard booted the cable box just in case and it went away but of course the tv rested while the box reset. It has come and gone twice since and is now back...

That could potentially be good news actually.

Check your cable connections well and try a different input source (dvd player, game console, etc..). If it has multiple inputs, try connecting the cable box to a different input.

Could be the cable connection, could be the box, could be the port, or of course it could be the tv.

Thanks I'll try those things. It's just weird that it's directly centered on the screen north and south. BTW it's gone now...?

Maybe this...

It was bent up at an approx 45% angle. When I gently pushed it down...snap. TV is mounted on a double pivoting arm wall mount. Last time I cleaned behind it I think the HDMI cable got caught in a pivot and pulled the cable up. I'll keep an eye on it but...good right now.

THANKS!

What bothers me about this whole deal is back in the early 70's I worked as a RR electrician troubleshooting locomotives and was pretty good at it. I would laugh at some of the other guys who would struggle to fix a locomotive by changing and rechanging the solid state panels to no avail. When I got assigned to try to fix it most often it was a simple thing like a broken wire. Today I thought "that old plasma must be failing I better ask the computer wizards their opinion" rather than looking at the simple things! Oh well...I was busy doing something else...Yeah that's it...doing something else...That's the ticket... :D

Go buy your self a $400 Monster HDMI cable for the replacement. That will set everything right.

Yeah...whatever! I've read that is a waste, but nice try!
